The AI agents you can use for ads today fall into three groups: the agents inside Meta and Google, connectors that let Claude or ChatGPT work with your ad account, and third-party tools such as Madgicx and Optmyzr. Start with reading and reporting. Give any agent permission to change things only with approvals and limits.

## Quick comparison

## What Meta offers

Meta announced its ads AI connectors on 29 April 2026 in open beta. They include an ads MCP server and a command line tool. They pull reports, create and edit ads, ad sets and campaigns, and check signal health. A 16 July update added rules, so people with full control of a business portfolio can limit what agents do, such as budget changes.

On 6 October 2026, Meta said it is beginning to test new capabilities in its Ads Manager assistant. Planning and creating a campaign, and changing targeting or budgets in conversation, are coming soon. For agents on the MCP server, Meta said their work lands as a draft in Ads Manager, and every action needs advertiser-set permissions and explicit approval before anything goes live. See our [summary of the announcement](/news/meta-advertising-week-2026-ai-ad-tools).

## What Google offers

At Google Marketing Live on 20 May 2026, Google introduced Ask Advisor, an agent built with Gemini that connects Google's in-product agents across Google Ads, Analytics and Google Marketing Platform, with a Merchant Center agent coming soon. Google's example is a request to find new customers for a product line. Ask Advisor pulls product details from Merchant Center and sets up the campaign in Google Ads in a few clicks. Google says it is in beta for English-language accounts. The separate Google Ads MCP server is read-only in its current release. See [how to connect Google Ads to Claude](/guides/how-to-connect-google-ads-to-claude).

## Connectors for Claude and ChatGPT

An [MCP server](/glossary/mcp-server) is a plug that lets an AI app read or act on another tool's data. Atria offers one for Claude and ChatGPT. Motion Starter ($999/month) includes MCP access. Supermetrics ($49/month on Starter, checked 20 Oct 2026) lists Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot among its destinations. Learn the basics in [what is MCP](/glossary/mcp).

## Questions to ask before you connect

1. **Can it only read, or change things too?**
2. **Does a human approve spend changes?**
3. **Is there a log of what it did?**
4. **Which data leaves your account?**

Say your daily budget is INR 5,000. Decide a limit before you start, for example that any change above INR 500 needs your approval. Meta says its server rules can cover budget changes. Check that your agent can enforce a rule like this.

We make Marxx. It offers a read-only hosted [MCP server](/mcp) for Claude and ChatGPT and a Slack bot, on top of reads of your Meta and Google Ads accounts. Read-only means the agent can look but cannot change anything.

## FAQ

### Can an AI agent run my ads by itself?

The vendors we read still gate actions. Meta says agent work on its MCP server lands as a draft and needs your approval before it goes live. Google's Ask Advisor is still in beta.

### Is it safe to connect Claude or ChatGPT to my ad account?

Start read-only. Google's MCP server is read-only today, and Meta lets portfolio owners set rules for what agents can do.
