To remove silence from video, Descript, Premiere Pro (now called Adobe Premiere) and Kapwing work from the transcript or one command. DaVinci Resolve needs Studio for its silence tool.

## Steps in the big editors

In Descript, open AI Tools, pick Shorten word gaps, set the gap length and the new length, then click Shorten all.

In Premiere Pro, make a transcript first. In Text-Based Editing, pick the filter icon, choose Pauses, then Delete all.

In DaVinci Resolve Studio, select clips with the Range tool, right-click and choose Remove Silence. Set Threshold, Pre Head, Post Tail and Minimum to Strip.

## CapCut and the rest

In CapCut on desktop, use the AI button in the top toolbar, or Edit > AI Tools > Auto Cut. Then choose Speech Pause Detection. It is not on CapCut Online. CapCut is not officially available in India: it is not on the Indian App Store, and its pricing page shows no plans to visitors from India (checked 3 Nov 2026).

Kapwing's Smart Cut removes silences. Its Auto Video Editor also removes filler words and stutters from a prompt. Clipchamp lists AI clean-up that removes pauses, silences and filler words. Pictory lists Silences and Filler words toggles in the transcript, and the removals apply to the video. Submagic's Pro plan lists AI removal of bad takes and silences.

## A worked example

Say a 10-minute talking-head recording has 90 pauses averaging 0.8 seconds. Shorten each to 0.2 seconds with Descript's word-gap tool. You save 90 x (0.8 - 0.2) = 54 seconds. The clip drops from 600 seconds to 546, or 9 minutes 6 seconds.

## How to choose

1. Decide if you want to cut pauses, filler words or both.
2. Check that your language is supported. Descript's filler tool is English only.
3. Set a gentle threshold first. Hard cuts can clip words.
4. Listen to every joined cut before you export.
