To edit video from Claude, start with an official connector from a cloud editor: Descript, Riverside, OpusClip, Kapwing, invideo or Submagic. For DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro (now called Adobe Premiere), most servers are community projects, apart from Blackmagic's own Resolve 21.1 integration.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard way an AI assistant plugs into another app.

## Official cloud editors

| Server | What Claude can do | What it needs (checked 3 Nov 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Descript | Add captions, Studio Sound, Remove Filler Words, reframe, translate, export timelines | No separate charge. Uses media minutes and AI credits |
| Riverside | Edit from plain language, cut clips, add captions, schedule posts | Grow plan and up |
| OpusClip | 37 tools: clip a video, edit clips, export, schedule | Tool calls need Pro Beta, Max or Business. Uses credits |
| Kapwing | Upload media, make and translate subtitles, AI dub | Any plan, including free. Uses credits |
| invideo | Open a project, add media, edit the timeline, export | Manual editing free. AI generation uses credits |
| Submagic | Create projects from a URL, make Magic Clips, export, publish | An API key for most clients. Plan not stated |
| Marxx | Claude edits the open project and asks for a quote before spending credits | Cut $9 a month and up, launch prices |

## Resolve and Premiere

Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve 21.1 (8 Sep 2026, a free update) says it supports AI assistants such as Claude. Its release lists analysing projects, organising media, batch render and building highlight edits. It does not say which edition. See Blackmagic's [release note](https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/media/partial/release/20260908-03).

Adobe for Claude offers 80+ tools. The only Premiere example Adobe gives is turning a horizontal clip into a Shorts or Reels version. Adobe does not show it driving the Premiere Pro timeline.

## Community servers

| Project | Drives | Stars on 3 Nov 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| davinci-resolve-mcp (samuelgursky) | DaVinci Resolve, through its scripting API | 3,901 |
| Adobe_Premiere_Pro_MCP (hetpatel-11) | Premiere Pro, through a panel | 806 |
| Kinocut | FFmpeg: trim, merge, resize, captions | 238 |
| ffmpeg-mcp (video-creator) | FFmpeg: 8 basic tools | 153 |

These are free, open-source projects. They are not made by the editor's vendor. The Resolve server needs external scripting set to Local, which is Studio-only. Free Resolve works only through a bridge script that the README says is unconfirmed on 21.1. See the [Resolve server's repo](https://github.com/samuelgursky/davinci-resolve-mcp). The Premiere server needs Premiere Pro 2020 or newer and Node 20.

## Generators with an MCP

Runway, Creatify, HeyGen, Synthesia and VEED have official MCP servers that mostly generate video. HeyGen's server also lists filler-word removal at $0.30 per source minute (checked 3 Nov 2026).

## A worked example

Say you ask Claude, through HeyGen's MCP, to remove filler words from 5 clips of 2 minutes each. That is 10 source minutes. 10 x $0.30 = $3.00. Each clip is over the 1-minute minimum, so each is billed at its length.

## How to choose

1. Pick the editor you already pay for.
2. Check the plan the connector needs.
3. Check what it cannot do, such as downloading an MP4.
4. Try one small edit before a big batch.

We make Marxx. Claude can edit the open project through the [Marxx MCP server](/mcp), and Cut includes unlimited editing with Claude. Anything paid must be approved in the editor tab, and the project must be open in a desktop browser.

## FAQ

### Can Claude edit video?

Yes, through an MCP connector to an editor. Claude uses the connector's tools to make the edit.

### Is there a free video editing MCP?

Kapwing's connector works on any plan, including free. The community servers for Resolve, Premiere and FFmpeg are free, open-source projects.

### Is there an official Premiere Pro MCP server?

We found no Adobe-published MCP server specific to Premiere Pro (checked 3 Nov 2026). The Premiere servers above are community projects.
