## Apple, Windows and browser

iMovie is free and runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Its storyboards give you shot lists, and Magic Movie picks a style. Clipchamp exports up to 1080p with no watermark on its free plan. Canva's Magic Video makes 60-second vertical videos from your clips, and Canva says it is included on Free.

## Phone apps

Edits by Instagram is free and adds no watermark. VN says its tools are free with no watermarks. Both run on iPhone and Android. Neither needs a laptop. Edits lists templates and shares to Instagram and Facebook. VN also runs on Mac and Windows.

## Edit by text

Descript turns your speech into a transcript. You delete words to cut video. Its Free plan adds a watermark and exports at 720p. That is fine for practice, not for a finished ad.

## DaVinci Resolve

The free version is a professional editor with colour and audio tools. It has the most to learn. Pick it if you want one tool to grow into.

CapCut describes itself as an all-in-one editor. CapCut is not officially available in India: it is not on the Indian App Store, and its pricing page shows no plans to visitors from India (checked 3 Nov 2026).

## A worked example

Say you want to remove Canva's limits after a month of practice. Pro Lite is Rs 1,590 a year, about Rs 133 a month (1,590 / 12). Pro is Rs 4,000 a year, about Rs 333 a month. Start free, and pay only when a free limit blocks a real ad.

## Your first week

1. Pick one tool from the table. Do not test three.
2. Cut one 15-second clip. Trim the start, add text and add music.
3. Add captions and watch the result on mute.
4. Export, then play the file on your phone.
5. Repeat with a real ad before you pay for anything.

We make Marxx. Its [AI video editor](/features/ai-video-editor) lets you describe an edit, such as removing silences, and the assistant does it on the timeline. Each request is one undo step.

For ads, read [how to make Reels ads](/guides/how-to-make-reels-ads) next. Then see the [best free video editors without a watermark](/best/best-free-video-editors-without-watermark).
