Most comparisons of AI ad copy generators paste the same prompt into five tools and judge which output reads best. That tells you which tool writes nicely. It doesn't tell you which one writes copy that keeps an ad running.

So we started from the other end. We pulled headlines from the Marxx ad library that brands have kept paying for over months, worked out what they have in common, and then looked at which generators make it easy to write copy like that.

Three long-running headlines: Withnell Hyundai "9 Used Cars Under $20,000!" 164 days, Redats "Your competitors show up first" 225 days, Wonderla "Ride More Pay Less" 99 days

## Four headlines that lasted

Four long-running headlines and the ingredient each uses: number and price cap, named pain, offer maths, concrete reason to act

| Headline | Brand | Days live | What it's doing |
|---|---|---|---|
| "9 Used Cars Under $20,000!" | Withnell Hyundai | 164 | A number and a price ceiling |
| "Your competitors show up first. You're getting fewer leads." | Redats | 225 | Names a pain the reader already feels |
| "Ride More Pay Less" | Wonderla | 99, with 44 copies | The offer, as maths |
| "Big discounts and great factory incentives" | Wilde Toyota | 232 | A plain reason to act now |

None of these would win a copywriting award. They're short, specific and a little blunt. Each one gives the reader a fact (a number, a price, a problem, a deal) rather than a feeling.

That's the bar we used for the generators below: how easily does each tool get you to a specific, fact-led line for your product, and how many versions can you test?

## The generators, compared

| Tool | What it's good at | Where it falls short for performance copy | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| **ChatGPT / Claude** | Fast drafts and rewrites from a good brief | Only as specific as your prompt. Doesn't know what's working in your category | Free tiers; paid from ~$20/mo |
| **Jasper** | Brand voice and team templates | Built around brand consistency more than testing | Paid plans |
| **Copy.ai** | Workflows for bulk copy | Generic unless you feed it strong inputs | Free tier; paid plans |
| **Anyword** | Scores copy variants before you run them | Scores are a prediction, not a result | Paid plans |
| **AdCreative.ai** | Headlines generated alongside ad images | Copy is tied to its own design templates | Paid plans |
| **Meta's text variations** | Free variations inside Ads Manager | Varies your copy, doesn't give you a new angle | Free |
| **Marxx generation canvas** | Hooks and scripts from angles already lasting in your category, then the finished ad | Built for ads, not long-form content | Trial |

### What separates them

Every tool on this list can write "9 Used Cars Under $20,000!" if you tell it you have nine used cars under $20,000. The difference is what happens before that.

Most generators start with a blank prompt box, so the specificity has to come from you. If you give them "write ad copy for our car dealership", you'll get "Find your dream car today at unbeatable prices", which is the kind of line that doesn't last.

The more useful tools pull in some of the inputs for you: your brand voice (Jasper), a prediction of which variant will do better (Anyword), or, in Marxx's case, the hooks and offers that are already running longest in your category.

## How to get performance copy out of any generator

You don't need a new tool to write better copy. You need better inputs. Before you prompt, have these ready:

1. **One number.** Stock count, price, time, result. "9 cars", "under $20,000", "11 days".
2. **The pain in your customer's words.** Take it from reviews or comments, not from your brand deck.
3. **The offer, stated as maths.** "Buy 3, get 1 free" beats "great value".
4. **A competitor headline that's lasted.** Check how long it's been running in the Meta Ad Library.

Then ask for 10 short variants that each use at least one of those, and test 3-5.

## Where the Marxx canvas fits

The canvas does step 4 for you. It starts from the hooks and offers that have lasted in your category, writes several opening lines from one brief, and then carries them through to the finished ad: voice, avatar or UGC-style talent, and every placement size, ready for Meta.

## FAQ

**What's the best AI ad copy generator?**
For quick drafts, ChatGPT or Claude with a specific brief. For brand consistency across a team, Jasper. For predicting which variant wins, Anyword. For going from what's working in your category to a finished ad, the Marxx generation canvas.

**Is AI ad copy as good as a human copywriter?**
For short, fact-led ad lines, AI can match a human when it's given the right facts. It's weaker at finding the angle in the first place.

**What makes ad copy "performance" copy?**
In the examples above, it's specificity: a number, a price, a named problem or an offer stated plainly.

## Turn one brief into a finished ad

**Trial the Marxx generation canvas:** start from what's lasting in your category, write several openings, and carry the best ones through to finished ads in every placement.
