AI can now do most of the grunt work in Facebook advertising. It can read thousands of competitor ads, write the script, make the video, cut it for every placement and push it into Ads Manager.

What it can't do is decide what's worth saying. This post walks through what AI does well today at each stage (research, creative and launch), where you still need a human, and how we run the whole loop at Marxx.

## TL;DR

| Stage | What AI does well today | What you still own |
|---|---|---|
| **Research** | Reads competitor ads at scale, tags hooks, offers and formats, finds what brands keep running, builds personas from reviews and comments | Picking the insight worth betting on |
| **Creative** | Turns a brief into scripts, images, UGC-style video, voiceovers and every placement size | The idea, brand taste and claims you can stand behind |
| **Launch** | Builds campaigns, ad sets and ads in Meta, then flags fatigue and compares hooks | Budget, the go/no-go decision and what to test next |

## 1. Research: what AI can do before you write a word

Most bad ads start with a guess. AI is now very good at replacing that guess with evidence.

**What it can do today:**

- **Read the competition.** Pull every live ad a competitor runs on Meta and sort by how long each has been live. Ads that run for months are the ones the brand is paying to keep.
- **Decode each ad.** Tag the hook, offer, format, emotion, social proof and audience on every video, static and carousel, frame by frame.
- **Spot trends.** Show which hooks and formats are growing or fading across your category.
- **Build personas from real words.** Turn reviews, Reddit threads, app-store comments and ad comments into who's buying, and in what moment.

### A real example: one call, one insight

We asked the Marxx connector in Claude to tear down Timezone India's Meta ads. One call returned this:

| Hook type | Share of Timezone's ads | Average days live |
|---|---|---|
| Offer-led | 35% | 8 |
| Question | 13% | 37 |
| Action / motion | 12% | 48 |
| Command | 10% | 59 |
| Aspirational | 10% | 59 |

| Ad type | Share | Average days live |
|---|---|---|
| Offer-first banner | 17% | 6 |
| Demo | 15% | 48 |
| Skit | 9% | 49 |

The insight jumps out. **A third of Timezone's ads lead with an offer, but those ads last about a week.** The ads that last are aspirational and moment-led. Its longest runner is a birthday-party image, "Turn your special day into something unforgettable", still live after 289 days across 16 near-identical copies.

That took seconds, not a week of scrolling the Ad Library. But notice what AI didn't do: it didn't decide that "parents planning a birthday" is the moment to build a campaign around. It handed you the evidence. You make the call.

## 2. Creative: from brief to finished ad

This is where AI has moved fastest. The hard part used to be making ten versions of an idea. Now it's having an idea worth making ten versions of.

**What it can do today:**

- **Ground the ad in your brand.** Read your website and product pages to pull brand and product details, so scripts don't sound generic.
- **Write.** Scripts, hooks, headlines and primary text, including versions per persona and per language.
- **Make images.** Generate and edit statics from a prompt or a reference.
- **Make video.** Animate stills, extend clips, trim, combine and upscale.
- **Make UGC without booking creators.** Pick from 200+ AI avatars, clone a voice, lip-sync the script and render it as a selfie-style video.
- **Size for every placement.** Cut the same ad for 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 and carousel.

### How it works on the Marxx canvas

On the [production canvas](/features/production-canvas), the brief and the ad live in the same place. Each step is a node you can see and edit:

1. **Brief node:** the insight, persona, moment and offer.
2. **Brand and product nodes:** facts pulled from your site.
3. **Script node:** three hooks, one body, one call to action.
4. **Image, video or avatar nodes:** the visual for each hook.
5. **Voice and lip-sync nodes:** the spoken version.
6. **Resize nodes:** every placement, cut automatically.

Nothing gets exported, renamed or re-uploaded between steps. If one hook's video fails a quality check, you regenerate that node, not the whole ad.

**Taking the Timezone insight forward:** the brief would be "a parent who has to plan a birthday this month, worried it'll be chaos". The canvas turns that into three hooks (the stress, the host who handles it, the kid's face on the day), a UGC-style host-to-camera video, a polaroid-style static and a 4:5 feed cut. That's a set of different ideas to test, not three rewrites of the same headline.

## 3. Launch: from finished ad to live campaign

**What it can do today:**

- **Publish straight to Meta.** Create the campaign, ad set and ad, including carousel cards and placements, without a CSV or a manual upload.
- **Suggest audiences** from the persona in the brief.
- **Launch safely.** At Marxx, everything is published paused. Nothing spends until a person turns it on.
- **Watch for fatigue.** Score every creative on CTR, CPM, ROAS and frequency, and flag decline early, often within a week of launch.
- **Close the loop.** Compare hooks after launch, then feed what won into the next brief.

Meta's own AI (the Advantage+ tools) is good at delivery: finding who to show an ad to and when. What it can't do is give it better ads to deliver. Most of the gain now comes from feeding the algorithm more, and more different, creative. That's the job the research and creative stages above are for.

## Where AI still needs you

| AI is good at | You're still better at |
|---|---|
| Finding patterns in thousands of ads | Choosing which pattern matters for *your* customer |
| Writing 20 hooks | Knowing which one is true, on-brand and legal to say |
| Making variations fast | Deciding the idea is worth varying |
| Flagging fatigue | Deciding whether to refresh, rethink or kill the idea |
| Launching ads | Setting budget and owning the result |

One more honest point: no AI tool can promise results from creative alone. Performance still depends on spend, audience, offer, landing page and competition. AI gets you to more good tests, faster.

## How we run it at Marxx

1. **Research in Claude.** Through the [Marxx MCP](/mcp), we ask Claude questions like "what is this competitor running longest?" or "which hooks are rising in my category?" and get answers from live ad data.
2. **Pick one insight.** A real moment and tension, backed by what the market keeps paying for.
3. **Brief it on the canvas.** One brief, several different ideas: different hooks, formats and people.
4. **Produce.** Scripts, statics, UGC-style video and every placement from the same canvas.
5. **Publish paused to Meta.** Review, then switch on.
6. **Learn.** Fatigue scoring and hook comparison decide the next brief.

## Trial the canvas: turn one brief into a finished ad

Bring one brief: a product, a customer and a moment. We'll take it from research to a finished, placement-ready ad on the [production canvas](/features/production-canvas), then push it to your Meta account, paused.

[Book a demo](/book-a-demo) and connect one ad account on the call.

## FAQs

### Can AI create Facebook ads?

Yes. AI can write the copy, make images and video (including UGC-style video with AI avatars), size them for every placement and publish them to Meta. What it can't do is choose the idea for you. The best results come from a person picking the insight and AI doing the production.

### What's the best AI tool for Facebook ads?

It depends on the stage. Meta's Advantage+ handles delivery. For research, creative and launch in one place, you want a tool that reads competitor ads, turns a brief into finished creative and publishes to Meta without exporting files. That's what [Marxx](/features/production-canvas) is built for.

### Will AI replace media buyers?

No. It removes the manual work: scrolling the Ad Library, resizing, uploading, checking for fatigue. Buyers still decide budget, strategy and what to test next.

### Is AI-generated creative allowed on Facebook?

Yes. Meta allows AI-generated ads, as long as they follow its advertising standards. Some ad categories, such as political and social issue ads, carry extra disclosure rules, so check Meta's current policy for your category.

### How do I start using AI for Facebook ads?

Start with research, not generation. Find what your competitors keep running and why, write one brief from a real customer moment, then use AI to produce several different ideas from it. [Book a demo](/book-a-demo) to try it on your own account.
