Most "best carousel ads" lists are a gallery of pretty screenshots and an opinion. They don't tell you whether the ad actually worked.

This list takes a different route. Every example below comes from the Marxx ad library, and every one was picked for one reason: **the brand kept paying to run it.** An ad that stays live for 70, 100 or 150+ days, often in several near-identical copies, is one the advertiser believes in. We don't have anyone's CTR, and we won't invent one. How long an ad ran, and how many copies of it ran, is the proof we can show.

We also sorted the examples by **the job each carousel does**, not by brand, so you can jump to the problem you're trying to solve.

## TL;DR

- A carousel is 2 to 10 swipeable cards in one ad, each with its own headline and link.
- The carousels brands keep running do one job per ad: show a range, tell a sequence, explain an offer, borrow proof, or help the viewer check whether it's for them.
- Card 1 has to work alone. Most people never swipe, so the first card is the ad. The other cards are a bonus for people who are already interested.
- The best advertisers test carousels in modules: same copy, different lead card, or the same idea split by city, service or occasion.
- Square (1:1) is still the most common first card in this set (11 of 16), but 4:5 and 9:16 cards appear too.

## Carousels that show a range

A carousel is a shelf. If what you sell is a range (services, shades, games, hotels), this is the most natural use of the format, and the easiest to get right.

### 1. IKEA: turning "50+ services" into a menu

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:8px;overflow-x:auto;padding-bottom:6px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/244033170035/1058339286538142/ae35ff6b.jpg" alt="IKEA carousel ad, card 1 of 3" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/244033170035/1058339286538142/6d73c7e4.jpg" alt="IKEA carousel ad, card 2 of 3" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/244033170035/1058339286538142/6156a067.jpg" alt="IKEA carousel ad, card 3 of 3" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
</div>

**Spain - Still live after 67 days - 21 near-identical copies - CTA: Learn more**

The copy reads: *"Find 50+ home-improvement services and leave those little fixes your home needs in the hands of professionals."* Card 1 doesn't list 50 services. It asks one specific question, "Need to fix a door?", over a photo of a technician arriving at the door.

**Why people swipe:** "50+" promises a menu, and a carousel is a menu. Anyone who doesn't need a door fixed swipes to find their own job.

**Steal this:** IKEA kept the body copy the same and swapped the lead service by audience: separate campaigns for carpentry, moving and electrical work, plus a Catalan version. It's the most heavily backed carousel in this list, and the lesson is modular: **one fixed message, a different first card for each need.**

### 2. SUGAR Cosmetics: seven shades on one card

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:8px;overflow-x:auto;padding-bottom:6px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/100116710332265/2307915646410244/9a421d5b.jpg" alt="SUGAR Cosmetics carousel ad, card 1 of 6" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">

<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/100116710332265/2307915646410244/6f249f44.jpg" alt="SUGAR Cosmetics carousel ad, card 6 of 6" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
</div>

**India - Still live after 22 days (the same creative ran 15 days before that) - 2 copies - CTA: Shop now**

Card 1 is a grid of seven macro lip swatches, each labelled (Peach Fling, Pink Pop, Taupe Tick and so on), with the product in the last tile. There's no discount.

**Why people swipe:** Close-up, wet-look texture is one of the most reliable scroll-stoppers in beauty. Seven options on one card change the question from "do I like this?" to "which one is mine?"

**Steal this:** If you have variants, make card 1 the whole range and the later cards the detail. The shopper picks first and zooms in second, the same way they would at a store counter.

### 3. Snitch Plus: answering "how will it fit?"

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:8px;overflow-x:auto;padding-bottom:6px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/236672023872356/1311123727633406/fa984370.jpg" alt="Snitch Plus carousel ad, card 1 of 5" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/236672023872356/1311123727633406/088fc4c7.jpg" alt="Snitch Plus carousel ad, card 2 of 5" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/236672023872356/1311123727633406/a78f9af7.jpg" alt="Snitch Plus carousel ad, card 3 of 5" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/236672023872356/1311123727633406/80d080cc.jpg" alt="Snitch Plus carousel ad, card 4 of 5" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/236672023872356/1311123727633406/746e1b8e.jpg" alt="Snitch Plus carousel ad, card 5 of 5" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
</div>

**India - Ran 185 days - CTA: Shop now**

Card 1 packs three views into one frame: the shirt on a plus-size model, a fabric close-up and a sleeve detail. On top of that are "PREMIUM EDIT" and "Up to 20% off".

**Why people swipe:** The plus-size shopper's biggest worry is fit. Seeing the shirt on a body like theirs is the thumb-stop, and the next cards answer the fit question from more angles.

**Steal this:** Snitch ran one carousel per product, several of them over the same 185 days. That's a catalogue built from many single-product carousels, each with its own lead image, rather than one ad crammed with ten products.

### 4. Dave & Buster's: a number worth collecting

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:8px;overflow-x:auto;padding-bottom:6px">

</div>

**US - Ran 36 days, then the same creative was relaunched for 29 days - CTA: See details**

Neon "10 NEW GAMES" over a moody arcade shot, with the licensed John Wick cabinet as the hero. The copy names three games "+ more".

**Why people swipe:** A number promises a list, and people swipe to see the whole set. Familiar characters on card 1 earn recognition before any reading happens.

**Steal this:** For a venue, "what's new" is a repeatable format. Put a number on card 1, the best-known item first, and refresh it each time new stock arrives.

### 5. Taj Hotels: the one asset everyone recognises

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:8px;overflow-x:auto;padding-bottom:6px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/15960887978/1156380446562738/2629959d.jpg" alt="Taj Hotels carousel ad, card 1 of 10" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">

</div>

**India - Ran 69 days (a near-twin ran 67) - CTA: Book now**

Card 1 is an aerial shot of Taj Lake Palace. The copy: *"From Snow-capped Himalayas to Sun-kissed Southern Shores, Explore India With Taj."*

**Why people swipe:** The first card is the brand's most famous property, so it stops the scroll through awe alone. The other nine cards are a route: Udaipur, Mumbai, five Goa properties and the Andamans, each with the same stamp-style "India with Taj" badge and the property name in the corner.

**Steal this:** Lead with your hero asset and let the copy set up the journey. Every card goes to the same offers page, so each property is just another way into one booking.

### 6. Sephora: a launch built for full-screen placements

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:8px;overflow-x:auto;padding-bottom:6px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/16453004404/1024450833393828/8cb275d3.jpg" alt="Sephora carousel ad, card 1 of 4" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">

<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/16453004404/1024450833393828/cfbba9f6.jpg" alt="Sephora carousel ad, card 4 of 4" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
</div>

**US - Ran 56 days - CTA: Shop now**

This is the only full-height (9:16) first card in the set: product name, who it's for ("thick hair prone to frizz") and the result, all in one tall frame. The copy: *"Want bouncy, glossy hair? Try New Gloss Absolu for up to 4 days anti-frizz."*

**Why people swipe:** The card leads with the result (the hair), not the bottle. The copy opens with a question that qualifies the viewer, then gives one number (4 days).

**Steal this:** Sephora ran a result-led first card and a product-led first card side by side for the same 56 days. That's a clean test: same product, same copy, different card 1.

---

## Carousels that tell a sequence

Here the order matters. Card 2 only makes sense after card 1. The copy usually lays out the structure, and the cards act it out.

### 7. The Whole Truth: six ingredients you can count

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:8px;overflow-x:auto;padding-bottom:6px">

**India - Still live after 154 days - 2 copies - CTA: Order now**

Card 1: "Real food your child can drink," a mother and daughter, the pack, and a "Website exclusive" badge. The copy is written like a recipe: *"Start with Milk. Add Almonds... Next, Ragi... Cocoa... Dates... And Palm Jaggery. That's it. Six ingredients."*

**Why people swipe:** The promise is that a child can read every ingredient. A countable recipe gives the viewer a reason to see the whole thing, and each step adds proof (protein figures, sprouted ragi, batch testing).

**Steal this:** If your product's story is "what's inside", build it one step per card. It's the longest-running carousel in this list that's still live. The same brand also ran a comparison-table carousel for 106 days, which is worth copying if you have a clear "us vs them".

### 8. Canva: one pain point per carousel

**Global - Ran 154 days - 2 copies - CTA: Learn more**

Card 1 looks like a social post, likes and all: *"You didn't get into marketing to write captions all day. Yet here we are..."* The ad copy is four words: *"Stop writing captions all day."*

**Why people swipe:** It names a chore every marketer hates, in their own voice. The swipe is where the chore gets fixed.

**Steal this:** Canva didn't make one carousel about "everything Enterprise does". It ran a family of carousels over the same period, one pain each (captions, staying on-brand with Brand Kit, subtitles for video). **One pain, one carousel**, and every one led with the pain.

### 9. Headspace: open with the question they're already asking

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:8px;overflow-x:auto;padding-bottom:6px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/324761664079/1004231868829335/728084d7.jpg" alt="Headspace carousel ad, card 1 of 2" style="flex:0 0 48%;width:48%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/324761664079/1004231868829335/31d99567.jpg" alt="Headspace carousel ad, card 2 of 2" style="flex:0 0 48%;width:48%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
</div>

**Global - Ran 55 days - CTA: Sign up**

An illustrated sleeping moon and one question: "Looking for ways to wind down?" The copy is a list of three benefits: *"Stress less, sleep better, and find more ease."*

**Why people swipe:** The question is what the viewer is already thinking at night. Three benefits map neatly to three cards.

**Steal this:** This ran 55 days. Headspace's other carousels ran 2 to 16. When the copy is a short list, give each item its own card and let card 1 ask the question.

### 10. Snow Kingdom: selling the weather outside

</div>

**India - Ran 67 days (April to June) - CTA: Book now**

A bright 4:5 illustration: "Summer Vibe Started," a polar bear and a snowman. The copy: *"Everything is fine, if you can find snow during heatwave."*

**Why people swipe:** Every city viewer in April is suffering the heat. The ad makes that feeling the hook, and the dry one-liner pays it off.

**Steal this:** Tie the carousel to a moment the viewer is living through right now (the heatwave, exams, the first week at a new office), and run it only for as long as that moment lasts. This one ran the full summer. The brand's other carousels ran 3 to 11 days.

## Carousels that explain an offer

Some offers don't fit on one card: bundles, codes, group pricing. A carousel gives the offer room to explain itself.

### 11. Wonderla: set up the feeling, then do the maths

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:8px;overflow-x:auto;padding-bottom:6px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/107323232672524/1573993231006986/b376f120.jpg" alt="Wonderla carousel ad, card 1 of 6" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">

</div>

**India - Still live after 72 days - 35 near-identical copies - CTA: Book now**

Card 1 isn't a ride. It's a bored family on a sofa, with the thought bubble "I want to try something out of this world!" The copy does the maths: *"Buy 3 ride tickets and enjoy 1 absolutely free."*

**Why people swipe:** Every amusement park shows rides. This one shows the living room people want to escape, then offers a deal sized for a family of four.

**Steal this:** 35 copies split by city (Bangalore, Kochi and Chennai versions) makes this the most heavily backed ad in the list. Wonderla also runs a corporate version worth studying:

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:8px;overflow-x:auto;padding-bottom:6px">

</div>

*"Forget Spreadsheets, Fasten Seatbelts"* is a laptop inside a bumper car, with a small on-card cue: "Swipe for the fun KPI." The offer is groups of 20+ save up to 35%, with a Get Quote CTA. It's still live after 65 days in 6 copies. Same park, different person, different moment. For more on selling to groups and occasions, see [Marxx for experience venues](/for/experience-venues).

</div>

**India - Still live after 38 days - 2 copies (a variant is live after 28 days in 3 copies) - CTA: Shop now**

Card 1 is quiet on purpose: one frame, a dark gradient, "Own Your Look". The offer lives in the first line of the copy: *"Get Up to INR 800 off. Use Code: SINGLE"*, followed by three features (scratch-resistant, crafted frames, featherlight fit).

**Why people swipe:** The code gives a money reason to act, and the cards become a frame try-on.

**Steal this:** You don't have to shout the offer on the card. A premium product shot plus a code in the copy keeps the brand looking expensive while the offer does the work. Lenskart has run the eyeglasses and sunglasses versions back to back since May, so it's an always-on unit, not a one-off promotion.

## Carousels that borrow proof

Social proof works better when it looks like a person, not an ad.

### 13. Airbnb Spain: one host, one story

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:8px;overflow-x:auto;padding-bottom:6px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/324826532457/1529857028537025/bae0d688.jpg" alt="Airbnb Spain carousel ad, card 1 of 5" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/324826532457/1529857028537025/1fa60b14.jpg" alt="Airbnb Spain carousel ad, card 2 of 5" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/324826532457/1529857028537025/3c53fbc4.jpg" alt="Airbnb Spain carousel ad, card 3 of 5" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">

<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/324826532457/1529857028537025/353440cf.jpg" alt="Airbnb Spain carousel ad, card 5 of 5" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
</div>

**Spain - Still live after 95 days - 3 copies - CTA: Watch more**

Card 1 is a portrait of Ramón, a host, with his quote: *"Many hospitality, construction and food businesses live thanks to guests like mine."* The copy adds the scale: hosts in more than 5,300 Spanish villages.

**Why people swipe:** A real face and a first-person quote read like a story, not a claim. "5,300 villages" suggests there are many more stories to see.

**Steal this:** If your proof is people, give each person a card. Airbnb uses this carousel to show the brand's value to rural communities, not to sell a stay, and the soft CTA (Watch more) fits that.

### 14. Glossier: the product as one moment in a day

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:8px;overflow-x:auto;padding-bottom:6px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/1392545734334646/1479684697251959/c55c118a.jpg" alt="Glossier carousel ad, card 1 of 4" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">

</div>

**US - Ran 21 days - 8 copies of the same creative - CTA: Shop now**

Run under the creator's handle (@subwayhands), card 1 is a bag on a lap on the subway: a Balm Dotcom, an iced drink, an apple, a book. The copy: *"girls on the go making time for subway reading, a BEC, sightseeing, sweet treats and @glossier."*

**Why people swipe:** It looks like an Instagram "photo dump", not an ad. Each card is another moment in a New York day, and the balm is part of the day rather than the hero of it.

**Steal this:** Creator carousels work when the product is card 1 of a life, not card 1 of a catalogue.

---

## Carousels that help the viewer check "is this for me?"

The swipe itself answers a question the viewer has, so the carousel filters its own audience.

### 15. Blinkit Ambulance: "is my area covered?"

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:8px;overflow-x:auto;padding-bottom:6px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/195235680671697/2519357925164685/f1d94450.jpg" alt="Blinkit Ambulance carousel ad, card 1 of 3" style="flex:0 0 32%;width:32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">

</div>

**India - Ran 36 days, then refreshed in a series of 34- and 27-day runs - CTA: See details**

Card 1 shows the ambulance, an app screen with an 8-minute ETA, and "Now serving North Campus, Delhi". The copy gives the instruction outright: *"Swipe to see all the locations we cover."*

**Why people swipe:** Naming a neighbourhood stops everyone who lives there. Everyone else swipes to check whether their area is included.

**Steal this:** For anything local (delivery, service areas, venue branches), a carousel of locations is a tool people use to check coverage, not just an announcement. Blinkit re-cuts it each time new areas go live.

</div>

**Japan - Ran 118 days - Instagram only - CTA: Learn more**

A 4:5 card of friends outside a private villa with a garden, and a headline that roughly translates as "For a summer trip where you want it all, Airbnb." The copy sells the freedom of having a whole place to yourselves.

**Why people swipe:** Every card is one moment of the same stay: arriving at the villa, the private pool, a swim, cooking together, lazing by the water. The last card is the app listing where you book it. It sells one kind of trip, not "Airbnb" in general, so the viewer pictures their own weekend.

**Steal this:** This was one of a matrix of carousels running at the same time, each built around a different trip: a private pool, a food-lover's neighbourhood, a family road trip, escaping the heat, and a visit home. It's the longest-running carousel in this list. **Split by occasion, not by product.**

## What the carousels that last have in common

| Pattern | Seen in | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Card 1 works on its own | All 16 | Write card 1 as if it's a single-image ad. Most people never swipe. |
| One job per carousel | Canva, Airbnb, IKEA | Don't mix a launch, an offer and proof in one carousel. Make three. |
| The copy sets up the structure | The Whole Truth, Headspace, Dave & Buster's | A recipe, a list or a number tells people how many cards to expect. |
| Test in modules | IKEA, Sephora, Wonderla, Airbnb Japan | Keep the copy fixed and change the lead card, the city, the service or the occasion. |
| Tie it to a moment | Snow Kingdom, Wonderla corporate | Heatwave, office outing, evening wind-down. Run it for as long as that moment lasts. |
| Proof has a face | Airbnb Spain, Glossier, Snitch | One real person per card beats one claim per card. |
| An explicit swipe cue, only when it's useful | Blinkit, Wonderla corporate | "Swipe to see if your area is covered" works. "Swipe ->" on its own doesn't. |

## Common carousel mistakes

- **A first card that only makes sense after swiping.** "Wait for it..." doesn't stop anyone, because card 1 is all most people see.
- **Ten products and no idea connecting them.** That's a catalogue feed, not a creative. Use catalogue ads for that.
- **Copy and visuals doing different jobs.** In every example above, the copy and card 1 carry one idea. The copy never describes a different ad from the one on screen.
- **Changing only the words when you test.** The brands above tested lead cards, audiences and occasions, not synonyms.
- **The same card order for every placement.** Feed, Stories and Reels crop differently. Check each one before launch.

## Carousel ad specs for Facebook and Instagram (2026)

| Spec | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Number of cards | 2 to 10 |
| Aspect ratio, feed | 1:1 (1080 x 1080) or 4:5 (1080 x 1350). Every card in a carousel must use the same ratio. |
| Aspect ratio, Stories | 9:16 (1080 x 1920) |
| Image files | JPG or PNG, up to 30 MB |
| Video files | MP4, MOV or GIF, up to 4 GB. Keep each card around 15 seconds. |
| Primary text | About 125 characters before it's cut off on Instagram, fewer on Facebook |
| Card headline | About 40 characters. Instagram feed doesn't show it. |
| Card description | Facebook only, and rarely shown on mobile |
| Mixed media | Images and videos can be mixed in one carousel |

Meta changes these specs often, so check Ads Manager before a big launch.

## A checklist before you launch

1. Can you say the carousel's one job in five words?
2. Would card 1 stop the scroll if it ran as a single-image ad?
3. Does the copy tell people why to swipe (a number, a list, a question, "is yours included")?
4. Does every card earn its place, or could the carousel lose three cards?
5. Is the offer's role clear: hook, reward or reassurance?
6. Is there a test planned: a different lead card, audience or occasion?

## How to find the carousels your competitors keep running

Every example in this post came from Marxx. We filtered each brand's ads down to carousels, sorted them by how long they had been live, and looked at how many near-identical copies each brand was running. That's the fastest way to separate a brand's real bets from its one-week experiments.

You can do the same for your own category:

- [Competitor tracking](/features/competitor-tracking): follow any brand's live ads, including carousels, and see which ones they keep running.
- [Creative intelligence](/features/creative-intelligence): break any ad down into its hook, offer, emotion and audience.
- [AI Ad Analyzer](/ai-ad-analyzer): test your own carousel's first card before you spend on it.

## FAQs

### What is a carousel ad?

A carousel ad shows 2 to 10 images or videos in a single ad that people swipe through. Each card can have its own headline, link and call to action. It runs on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Audience Network.

### Are carousel ads better than single-image ads?

Not by default. A carousel wins when the message has more than one part: a range, a sequence, an offer that needs explaining, or several proof points. If one image and one line say everything, a single image is often the stronger ad.

### How many cards should a carousel ad have?

As many as the idea needs and no more. In this list, card counts ranged from a short benefit list to a menu of 50+ services. Every card should add something new. If a card only repeats the last one, cut it.

### What size should carousel ad images be?

Use 1080 x 1080 (1:1) or 1080 x 1350 (4:5) for feed, and 1080 x 1920 (9:16) for Stories. All cards in one carousel have to use the same aspect ratio.

### What makes a carousel ad work?

A first card that works on its own, one clear job for the whole carousel, and a reason to swipe that the copy sets up: a number, a list, a question or a "check if yours is included".

### How can I see which carousel ads competitors are running?

Use an ad intelligence tool that filters by format and shows how long each ad has been live. In [Marxx](/features/competitor-tracking), you can filter any tracked brand to carousels and sort by longest running.
