A Meta lead form gives you a name, a phone number, an email and a timestamp. Your sales team gets a row in a spreadsheet and no idea whether this person is ready to buy or was chasing a prize draw.

That gap is where lead-gen budgets die. Not in the ad account -- between the form fill and the follow-up.

This guide covers what a raw Meta lead actually contains, what to add to it, how to route it, and how to write the outcome back so Meta optimises for the leads that close instead of the ones that submit.

## What a raw Meta lead gives you

| You get | You don't get |
|---|---|
| Name, phone, email | Whether the number is real or reachable |
| Answers to your form questions | Whether they're already in your CRM |
| Lead ID, page ID, form ID | Which creative and which hook produced them |
| Submission timestamp | Which offer they responded to |
| Campaign, ad set, ad ID (if you fetch it) | Who owns the follow-up, and by when |
| -- | Whether the lead ever became revenue |

Everything in the right column is enrichment. None of it requires buying data -- most of it is already inside your own systems and your ad account, just not attached to the record.

## Three ads, three "leads", nothing alike

Here's why an unenriched lead list misleads. All three of these are live lead-gen ads:

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:8px;overflow-x:auto;padding-bottom:6px;margin:8px 0">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/1076371499060659/2612878135840003/adc77adf.jpg" alt="Indifi Meta ad: collateral-free business loans up to INR 50 lakh in three days for GST-registered businesses" style="flex:0 0 32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/604334496088937/3780197298942048/a506465f.jpg" alt="Cloudnine Hospital Meta ad: &quot;Every first scan, smile, snuggle -- we're there&quot;, a limited-period maternity care offer" style="flex:0 0 32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/838306139598437/4998726520353777/82925b3e.jpg" alt="GyanDhan Meta ad: &quot;Bad grades but not bad vibes?&quot; -- one test, a INR 2.5 lakh scholarship" style="flex:0 0 32%;height:auto;border-radius:8px">
</div>

The first qualifies before anyone clicks: GST-registered, needs capital, three-day timeline. Whoever fills that form has a business and a number in mind.

The second is narrower still -- an expectant parent deciding where to have their baby. Low volume, high value, emotionally loaded, and worth a call within the hour rather than a WhatsApp template.

The third will bury the other two on volume. A INR 2.5 lakh scholarship test attracts every student who can spare ten minutes, and only a fraction of them want a loan. Those are not bad leads; they are early-stage leads, and treating them like the first two wastes a salesperson's week.

All three arrive in the CRM as "Lead, Facebook", with a name, a number and nothing else. Your CPL report averages them together. Then someone concludes "Meta leads are junk".

Meta leads aren't junk. Unlabelled leads are.

## The four jobs of lead ops

| Job | What it means | What breaks without it |
|---|---|---|
| **Capture** | The lead reaches your system the second the form is submitted | Nightly CSV exports; leads called on day two |
| **Enrich** | The record gains the form answers, the ad behind it, and your own context | Sales works blind; no read on which creative sells |
| **Route** | Owner assigned, first message sent, SLA started | Fast leads go cold in a shared inbox |
| **Write back** | Real outcomes returned to Meta as conversion events | The algorithm keeps buying form fills, not customers |

Most teams do the first and fourth badly and skip the middle two entirely.

### Capture: webhook, not export

Meta lead ads can arrive by webhook the moment the form is submitted, rather than by fetching them later. Two design rules matter:

- **Keep capture separate from enrichment.** Store the raw lead first, enrich second. If the enrichment step is slow or an API is down, you still have the lead.
- **Treat duplicate webhooks as no-ops.** Meta can deliver the same event more than once. If duplicates create records, your lead count and your CPL are both wrong.

### Enrich: what to actually attach

<div style="display:flex;gap:12px;flex-wrap:wrap;font-family:-apple-system,Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;line-height:1.55;margin:8px 0">

</div>
<div style="flex:1 1 260px;background:#f2f8f5;border:1px solid #cfe6da;border-top:3px solid #2f9e6e;border-radius:10px;padding:14px 16px">
<div style="font-size:11px;letter-spacing:.06em;color:#2f9e6e;font-weight:700;margin-bottom:8px">THE RECORD AFTER ENRICHMENT</div>

Three sources of enrichment, in order of value:

1. **The ad that produced the lead** -- creative, hook and offer. This is the only way to learn which creative brings buyers rather than form fills, and it's the field almost nobody stores.
2. **The form answers themselves** -- timeline, budget, company size, city. Free, already collected, usually dumped into a notes field where no one can filter on it.
3. **Your own systems** -- is this number already a customer, an existing enquiry, or the same person submitting three times this week?

Third-party data appends (company, job title, firmographics) matter for B2B. For consumer lead gen in India, the first three are worth more than anything you can buy.

### Route: the clock starts at submit

Enrichment is only useful if it changes who does what. These two, for instance, should never reach the same person:

<div style="display:flex;align-items:flex-start;gap:10px;flex-wrap:wrap;margin:8px 0">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.ap-south-1.amazonaws.com/116772528383864/1125138719120199/image_0.jpeg" alt="Apollo Hospitals Meta ad: &quot;Be there for every moment&quot; -- start your health journey with a personal health check" style="flex:0 0 46%;max-width:310px;height:auto;border-radius:10px">
<img src="https://marx-ad-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/ads/106275231291705/1024212960379412/5e521278.jpg" alt="Pixis Meta ad: &quot;Your fully designed website on your first call&quot; -- live in days, not months" style="flex:0 0 46%;max-width:310px;height:auto;border-radius:10px">
</div>

A consumer health check books itself with a link and a reminder; a website enquiry needs a person on a call the same day. Same platform, same form mechanics, completely different follow-up. A workable ruleset:

| Condition | Route to | First contact |
|---|---|---|
| Qualified enquiry, need inside 30 days | Owner for that city or segment | WhatsApp in 15 minutes, call in 60 |
| High-value or B2B enquiry | Senior sales | Call same day, email with the numbers |
| Prize, scholarship or giveaway entry | Nurture sequence only | Automated message, no call |
| Duplicate of an open enquiry | Existing owner | No new touch |
| Invalid number or email | Validation queue | One email, then drop |

That third row is the one that saves money. If prize-draw entries never reach the sales queue, your team's day stops being 80% dead numbers, and your cost-per-*qualified*-lead becomes measurable.

### Write back: teach Meta what a good lead is

Meta optimises for the event you send it. If the only event it gets is "lead submitted", it will find you people who submit forms -- a real and very cheap audience of people who never buy.

Map your pipeline stages to conversion events and write them back to the ad account's pixel through the Conversions API:

<div style="background:#0f1115;color:#e6e8ec;border-radius:12px;padding:16px 20px;font-family:ui-monospace,Menlo,monospace;font-size:13px;line-height:1.7;margin:8px 0">
<span style="color:#9aa0a8">form submitted</span>   ->  Lead

<span style="color:#9aa0a8">reached &amp; qualified</span> ->  <span style="color:#4dd4a6">QualifiedLead</span>  <span style="color:#6b727c"><- optimise here once volume allows</span>

<span style="color:#9aa0a8">site visit booked</span>  ->  Schedule

<span style="color:#9aa0a8">deal won</span>           ->  <span style="color:#4dd4a6">Purchase</span> (with value)
</div>

Four things to get right:

- **Use each account's own pixel and credentials.** An inherited pixel from another client or another brand sends conversions to the wrong account.
- **Send a value with the won event.** Optimising for a INR 15 lakh loan and a INR 2,000 first order identically is how budget drifts to the cheap outcome.
- **Retry failed sends on a backoff**, and log them. Silent drops mean the algorithm learns from an incomplete picture and nobody notices for a month.
- **Deduplicate against the pixel** with event IDs, or one conversion counts twice.

The payoff is the part worth repeating to a client: once qualified outcomes go back, Meta's optimisation starts hunting for people like your buyers, not people like your form-fillers.

## Seven failure modes

- **Leads fetched nightly.** Speed-to-lead is the single biggest controllable variable in lead gen, and a 14-hour delay throws it away.
- **No creative on the record.** You will never know which ad produced revenue, so creative decisions stay guesses.
- **Everything in one queue.** Prize-draw entries and qualified enquiries get the same treatment, and the good ones wait.
- **Form answers stored as free text.** If you can't filter on loan size, timeline or city, you didn't capture it.
- **No dedupe.** Inflated lead counts, embarrassing double calls, wrong CPL.
- **Offline outcomes never sent back.** The most expensive omission on this list.
- **A lead inbox nobody watches.** Permissions expire; leads silently stop arriving. Something has to flag the gap and re-populate when access is restored.

## A 30-day order of work

| Week | Do this |
|---|---|
| 1 | Webhook capture, raw store, dedupe. Stop the CSV. |
| 2 | Attach form answers and the ad, hook and offer to every record. |
| 3 | Routing rules and SLAs, with prize-draw and duplicate traffic diverted out of the sales queue. |
| 4 | CAPI write-back for qualified and won, with values; then check spend moving toward the creatives that produce them. |

Do them in this order. Write-back before enrichment just sends Meta cleaner noise.

## How Marxx does it

Marxx's [lead ops](/features/leads) runs the whole chain: Meta lead ads arrive by webhook the moment the form is submitted, the record comes back with the submitted answers and the ad that produced it, routing triggers the email and notifies the owner, and pipeline stages are written back to Meta as conversion events through each account's own pixel.

Capture is deliberately separated from enrichment so a slow fetch can't lose a lead, duplicate webhooks are treated as no-ops, failed conversions retry on a backoff rather than dropping silently, and the leads inbox flags anything waiting on permissions and fills it in once access is restored.

Because the ad is attached to every lead, the same data that scores creative fatigue in your account can be asked the only question that matters: which hook produced the leads that closed.

## Demo: connect one lead form and watch a record fill itself in

Bring one live lead form. On a 30-minute call we'll capture a test submission, enrich it with the creative behind it, route it to an owner, and send the qualified event back to your pixel.

[Book a demo](/book-a-demo) and bring the ad account and one form.

## FAQs

### What is lead enrichment for Meta lead ads?

Adding context to a raw form fill: the form answers in usable fields, the ad, hook and offer that produced it, whether the contact already exists in your CRM, and who owns the follow-up. It turns a name and a phone number into a record a salesperson can act on.

### Why do Meta leads feel low quality?

Usually because different intents are mixed together. A prize-draw entry and a qualified enquiry arrive looking identical, so the average looks poor. Attach the creative to the record and the difference is visible immediately -- and routable.

### How fast should you contact a Meta lead?

Minutes, not hours. That's why capture by webhook matters more than any clever scoring: the lead has to exist in your system while the person still remembers submitting the form.

### What is CAPI and why does it matter for lead gen?

The Conversions API sends events to Meta from your server rather than the browser. For lead gen it's how real outcomes -- qualified, booked, won -- get back to the ad account, so optimisation targets buyers rather than form-fillers.

### Which events should a lead-gen account send back?

Lead on submission, a qualified event once the lead is reached and validated, a booking or scheduling event, and a won event with its value. Optimise on the deepest event that has enough weekly volume to learn from.

### Do I need a separate enrichment tool?

Not always. Most of the value is your own data: form answers, ad metadata, CRM matching. A tool earns its place when it handles capture reliability, dedupe, routing and CAPI write-back together, instead of leaving four integrations for you to maintain.
