Janmashtami 2027 falls on **Wednesday 25 August** per Drik Panchang, but Dekho Panchang lists **Tuesday 24 August**, because the date depends on the Ashtami tithi at midnight (checked 2026-10-20). Dahi Handi follows on Thursday 26 August (Drik). Write date-free creative, and aim at decor, sweets, kids' outfits and family gatherings.

## The dates

| Year | Janmashtami | Dahi Handi |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 (done) | Friday 4 September. ISKCON observes Saturday 5 September | Varies by region |
| 2027 | Wednesday 25 August (Drik Panchang) or Tuesday 24 August (Dekho Panchang) | Thursday 26 August (Drik Panchang) |

Regions and traditions can differ by a day, so ask your customers which day they keep.

## A timing plan for 2027

| When | What to run |
|---|---|
| 2 weeks before | Teasers and pre-orders: outfits, decor, pooja items, sweets |
| 1 week before | Main push, with delivery-by dates for the earlier day |
| Evening before the first date | Greetings and last-minute local delivery |
| Janmashtami night | Devotees sing and fast until midnight, the traditional time of Krishna's birth ([Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janmashtami)). Schedule midnight greetings ahead of time |
| Dahi Handi | Group content, community events, team outfits |
| After | Move to [Ganesh Chaturthi](/campaigns/ganesh-chaturthi-ad-ideas) on Saturday 4 September |

Janmashtami follows [Raksha Bandhan](/campaigns/raksha-bandhan-ad-ideas) in August, so plan the two budgets together.

## Ideas by category

| Category | Idea |
|---|---|
| Kids' wear | Krishna and gopi outfits for children, with a size guide |
| Pooja and decor | Swing (jhula) sets, flute and peacock-feather decor, lights |
| Sweets and snacks | Gift boxes, fasting-friendly snacks, with a delivery date |
| Books and apps | Story books and learning apps for children |
| Events | Dahi Handi sponsors, fancy-dress contests |

## Plan around the date split

Say you promise "delivered by Janmashtami". Use the earlier date, Tuesday 24 August. If shipping takes three days, stop that promise on Saturday 21 August (24 minus 3). Anyone who keeps the later day still gets the parcel in time.

## Mistakes to avoid

- A fixed date in the creative, when two dates are in use
- Midnight posts you forgot to schedule
- Using Krishna's image on sale banners or discount stamps. Show the festival with care
- Treating one tradition's date as the "right" one
