Teachers' Day in India is **5 September**, which is a **Sunday in 2027**. Parents and older students buy the gifts, so run thank-you and gift ads in the weeks before, and get deliveries out by Friday 3 September.

## The dates

| Year | Teachers' Day (India) | World Teachers' Day |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 (done) | Saturday 5 September | Monday 5 October |
| 2027 | Sunday 5 September | Tuesday 5 October |

India marks Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's birthday. A [PIB release](https://www.pib.gov.in/PressReleaseIframePage.aspx?PRID=1651340&reg=3&lang=2) says that since 1962 his birth date, 5 September, is celebrated as Teachers' Day, and a [2025 PIB release](https://www.pib.gov.in/PressReleseDetailm.aspx?PRID=2164046) shows the Prime Minister's greetings on 5 September. World Teachers' Day is a separate UNESCO day, on 5 October every year since 1994 ([UNESCO](https://www.unesco.org/en/days/teachers)). All checked 2026-10-20. If you sell in India, use 5 September.

In 2027, Ganesh Chaturthi is Saturday 4 September, the day before ([Ganesh Chaturthi plan](/campaigns/ganesh-chaturthi-ad-ideas)). In Maharashtra and other places that celebrate it heavily, check that your plan does not clash.

## Who buys

Children rarely buy for themselves. Aim at parents and adult learners, and keep to the rules on children and ads in [Children's Day ad ideas](/campaigns/childrens-day-ad-ideas). Teachers can also be buyers, for laptops, books and tools, so a teacher offer with ID check is worth a test.

## Timing plan (2027)

| When | What to run |
|---|---|
| 16 to 27 August | Gift guides by budget. Launch teacher-appreciation content |
| 28 August to 2 September | Main push, with delivery-by dates |
| Friday 3 and Saturday 4 September | Last orders, e-gift cards, local delivery |
| Sunday 5 September | Greetings and digital gifts only |
| From 6 September | Thank-you offers, then regular campaigns |

Work back from delivery. Say a courier takes four days and you want parcels by Friday 3 September. Your last order is Monday 30 August, four days before. Stop "arrives for Teachers' Day" ads that day.

## Ideas by seller

| Seller | Idea |
|---|---|
| Gift brands | Hampers under INR 299, INR 599 and INR 999: pens, planners, a plant, a photo frame |
| Stationery and books | "Best pen for a teacher" bundles, with a note card |
| Coaching and edtech | A thank-you video from students, shared with permission. See [30 hooks for edtech ads](/templates/hooks-for-edtech-ads) |
| Schools | A "teacher of the year" nomination post |
| Cafes and restaurants | A free coffee for teachers with an ID |

Check each school's own rules on gifts before you push pricey ones, and keep the tone about thanks, not showing off.

## A hamper example

Say a INR 599 hamper holds a pen set, a planner and a small plant. It costs you INR 260 to buy, pack and ship. The margin is INR 339, so break-even ROAS is 599 / 339 = 1.8. Each INR 1 of ads must bring INR 1.8 in sales to break even. Learn more in [break-even ROAS](/glossary/break-even-roas).

## Mistakes to avoid

- Mixing up 5 September in India and World Teachers' Day on 5 October
- Ads aimed at children
- Pushing expensive gifts for a gesture of thanks
- Fake testimonials from "students". Use real ones, with written permission
- Delivery that lands after the Sunday, when the day has passed
