# How Breakout Escape Rooms went from 3x to 12.5x ROAS on Meta

> A traditional agency had Breakout's Meta ROAS stuck at 3x. Marxx AI's research, 200+ creatives a month and daily account intelligence took it to 12.5x, with 15x on corporate outings and 18x on birthday parties.

- **Escape room ROAS:** 12.5x
- **Corporate outing ROAS:** 15x
- **Birthday party ROAS:** 18x
- **ROAS before Marxx:** 3x
- **Creatives per month:** 200+
- **Bengaluru locations:** 3

## The challenge

Breakout runs escape rooms at three locations across Bengaluru. Its Meta ads were run by a traditional agency, and return on ad spend had been **stuck at 3x**.

The problem wasn't the product. It was the operating model:

| What was happening | What it cost Breakout |
|---|---|
| A handful of new creatives at a time | Ads fatigued, and nothing replaced them fast enough |
| Infrequent account updates | Budget kept flowing to ads that had stopped working |
| One generic message for every buyer | A birthday parent, an HR lead planning a team outing and a group of friends all saw the same ad |

An escape room isn't bought by "people aged 18 to 35". It's bought by a friend looking for something better than another dinner, by a parent planning a child's birthday, and by someone told to organise the team offsite. Each one needs a different ad.

## The edge: an agency that runs on its own AI platform

Marxx is a performance agency built on **Marxx AI**, the creative intelligence platform we built and use every day. The platform does the research, creative volume and account monitoring that a traditional agency does by hand, or not at all. Here's what that looked like inside Breakout's workspace.

### 1. Competitor research: every escape room ad in one place

We track the live Meta ads of the escape room and experience brands Breakout competes with. Every ad is searchable by hook, offer and format. That showed us the category's default playbook (a stock "team building" or "birthday party" poster with a get-a-quote button), and gave Breakout a clear way to look and sound different.

### 2. Persona research: built from 6,480 real comments

Marxx AI clusters reviews and comments into personas, each with the pain points and questions behind a booking. For Breakout, that surfaced groups a demographic brief would never find. Hobbyists want harder, non-linear puzzles. First-timers are worried about getting stuck. Party planners need the event to go smoothly for their guests. Each persona got its own ads.

### 3. Brand research: Breakout's voice, locked in

Tone, values, voice and palette are captured once and used in every brief. Breakout is playful, bold and thrilling ("go beyond your normal escapes"), so every ad has to feel like the start of a game, not a discount flyer.

### 4. 200+ creatives a month

This is where the traditional model broke. We moved Breakout to **200+ creatives a month**: short videos, carousels and statics, built from the persona research and Breakout's own footage. Separate campaigns carry separate stories: escape room bookings, corporate outings and birthday parties.

### 5. Daily account intelligence

Every day the platform checks each ad's spend, cost, fatigue and return. Winners get more budget, tired ads are replaced, and nothing runs for weeks on autopilot.

## The results

Return on ad spend climbed in four clear steps as the testing volume went up:

| Stage | Return on ad spend |
|---|---|
| Before Marxx (traditional agency) | 3x |
| Phase 1 | 7x |
| Phase 2 | 10x |
| **Now** | **12.5x** |

Splitting campaigns by buyer made the biggest difference. Each occasion now runs on its own ads and its own budget:

</figure>

| Campaign | Return on ad spend |
|---|---|
| Escape room bookings | **12.5x** |
| Corporate outings | **15x** |
| Birthday parties | **18x** |

Every rupee Breakout puts into Meta now brings back 12.5 to 18 rupees, more than four times what it earned before.

## What experience brands can take from this

1. **ROAS stalls when creative stalls.** Three or four ads a month can't keep up with Meta. 200+ can.
2. **Split by occasion, not by age.** Birthdays, corporate outings and friend groups are different decisions, so give each its own campaign.
3. **Research before you write.** Competitor, persona and brand research come first, and the ads come out of them.
4. **Watch the account every day.** Tired ads and wasted spend add up quietly. Daily checks catch them in a day, not a month.
