Advantage+ and CBO are not two options to choose between. CBO is the old name for Advantage+ campaign budget, which is one budget setting. An Advantage+ sales campaign is a campaign type that uses that budget setting plus three more Advantage+ tools. So the real question is how much you want Meta to automate.

## How they fit together

Meta's page on Advantage+ sales campaigns lists four tools in one campaign: Advantage+ audience, Advantage+ campaign budget, Advantage+ placements and Advantage+ destination. Meta says the most advanced AI optimisations switch on when a sales campaign uses all four (checked 20 Oct 2026, from [Meta's Advantage+ sales campaigns page](https://www.facebook.com/business/ads/meta-advantage-plus/sales-campaigns)).

Advantage+ campaign budget, the old CBO, does one job. You set one budget for the campaign, and Meta shares it across ad sets in real time (checked 20 Oct 2026, from [Meta's Advantage+ campaign budget page](https://www.facebook.com/business/ads/meta-advantage-plus/budget)).

## Side by side

| | Advantage+ campaign budget (CBO) | Advantage+ sales campaign |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | One budget setting | A campaign type that bundles four tools |
| What it automates | How budget splits across ad sets | Audience, budget, placements and destination |
| Where you set it | Inside a manual or Advantage+ campaign | When you create a sales campaign |
| Your controls | Minimum and maximum spend per ad set | Fewer, because more is automatic |
| Best for | Scaling ad sets you already trust | Selling products with steady purchase volume |

For CBO to work, Meta says all ad sets need the same budget type, the same bid strategy and standard delivery.

## The control that CBO users forget

Meta lets you set a minimum or maximum for each ad set inside Advantage+ campaign budget. That limits how much budget can shift between ad sets.

## A worked example

Say you run three ad sets in one campaign with INR 9,000 a day. You test three audiences.

- **No limits:** after two days Meta sends INR 7,300 to ad set A, INR 1,200 to B and INR 500 to C. B and C never get a fair test.
- **With a INR 2,000 minimum per ad set:** each ad set gets at least INR 2,000. Meta still moves the other INR 3,000 to whichever does best.

After a week, A costs INR 610 per purchase, B INR 540 and C INR 980. The minimum showed you that B was the best one. You then drop C and keep A and B.

This is the same logic as the [CBO vs ABO](/compare/cbo-vs-abo) choice. Use equal fixed budgets to test. Use CBO to scale.

## How to choose

1. **Testing audiences or concepts:** use ad set budgets, or CBO with minimums.
2. **Scaling a few proven ad sets:** use CBO.
3. **Selling products with enough purchase data:** try an Advantage+ sales campaign. Read the wider comparison in [Advantage+ vs manual campaigns](/compare/advantage-plus-vs-manual-campaigns).
4. **Little data or a new pixel:** start manual. Each ad set needs enough results to leave the [learning phase](/glossary/learning-phase).

Learn the budget setting itself in [Advantage campaign budget](/glossary/advantage-campaign-budget). If your question is about the audience tool, see [Advantage+ audience vs original audience](/compare/advantage-plus-audience-vs-original-audience).

## FAQ

### Is CBO the same as Advantage+?

No. CBO is the old name for one Advantage+ tool, Advantage+ campaign budget. Advantage+ is the wider family of automated tools.

### Can I use CBO without an Advantage+ sales campaign?

Yes. You can switch on Advantage+ campaign budget in a regular campaign and keep control of the audience and placements yourself.

### Should I use CBO for a small budget?

Be careful. With a small budget, one ad set can take almost all the spend. Set minimums or use fewer ad sets.
