Pick Descript if your ads are talking heads and you want to cut by editing a transcript. Pick CapCut if you are outside India and want a timeline editor with templates and effects.

## Side by side

| | CapCut | Descript |
|---|---|---|
| Main idea | Timeline editor with templates | Edit the transcript to edit the video |
| Runs on | Windows, Mac, browser, phone | Mac and Windows app, plus web sign-in |
| India | Not officially available | Dollar prices only, no India page |
| Free plan | Free Standard tier | 720p, watermark, 1 media hour a month |

| Cutting pauses | Auto Cut with Speech Pause Detection | Remove filler words in one click |
| Templates | Social, Reels and business | AI templates |

Descript's page shows two numbers per plan without labels. We read the lower as the yearly price, and monthly billing is $24, $35 and $65. CapCut's prices are US prices and vary by region (checked 3 Nov 2026).

## CapCut in India

CapCut is not officially available in India: it is not on the Indian App Store, and its pricing page shows no plans to visitors from India (checked 3 Nov 2026). See [CapCut alternatives](/alternatives/capcut-alternatives) or [Descript vs VEED](/compare/descript-vs-veed).

## Three differences that matter

- **How you cut.** In Descript you delete words and the video follows. In CapCut you trim clips on a timeline.
- **Language limits.** Descript's help page says filler-word removal detects fillers in English transcripts only. Hindi transcription is in Beta.
- **Handoff.** Descript's Creator plan lists timeline export to other editors. CapCut Pro lists team collaboration.

## What each does well

- **CapCut:** templates, effects and text to speech on desktop, browser and phone.
- **Descript:** Studio Sound for clean speech, green screen, voice clones, and share links with comments.

## Worked example: media hours

Say you record 12 raw takes a month, 20 minutes each. That is 240 minutes, or 4 hours.

- Descript Free: 1 media hour, so it stops after 3 takes.
- Hobbyist: 10 media hours covers it. At $16 billed yearly, that is $16 x 12 = $192 a year.

CapCut lists no media-hour cap on the pages we read.

## Where Marxx fits

[Marxx's AI video editor](/features/ai-video-editor) also finds silences and filler words from the transcript and cuts them. You can describe an edit in plain words. Plans start at $9 a month at launch prices (checked 3 Nov 2026). We make Marxx.

## FAQ

### Is Descript good for ads?

It suits talking-head and interview footage, where the transcript drives the cut. For heavy effects or motion, a timeline editor gives more control.

### Does Descript remove filler words in Hindi?

Its help page says filler-word detection works on English transcripts only. See [how to add captions to video ads](/guides/how-to-add-captions-to-video-ads) for Hindi options.

### Can I use CapCut in India?

CapCut is not officially available in India (checked 3 Nov 2026).
