Pick Filmora if you are in India and want desktop and phone apps, but expect a watermark on the free plan. Pick CapCut if you are outside India and want its templates and browser editor.

## Side by side

| | CapCut | Filmora |
|---|---|---|
| Runs on | Windows, Mac, browser, phone | Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android |
| India | Not officially available | iPhone listing in rupees. Website shows dollars |
| Free plan | Free Standard tier | Free forever, with a watermark on exports |
| Paid price | Pro $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year | Basic $49.99 a year. Perpetual $79.99 |
| Auto captions | Several languages, Hindi not confirmed | Dynamic caption styles. Language lists disagree |
| Cutting pauses | Auto Cut with Speech Pause Detection | Silence detection and AI Text-Based Editing |
| Reframe | Auto reframe on desktop, in some regions | Auto Reframe on the free plan list |
| Translation | Caption translation. Dubbing not found | AI Video Translation |

Filmora's own pages disagree on exact desktop prices, so confirm at checkout. $49.99 a year and $79.99 perpetual are the most consistent pair. CapCut's prices are US prices and vary by region (both checked 3 Nov 2026).

## CapCut in India

CapCut is not officially available in India: it is not on the Indian App Store, and its pricing page shows no plans to visitors from India (checked 3 Nov 2026).

Filmora's iPhone listing in India shows Pro at INR 999 for one month and INR 4,999 for one year. It lists no rupee price for the desktop app. See also [CapCut vs VN](/compare/capcut-vs-vn).

## Three differences that matter

- **Free plan.** Filmora's free edition adds a watermark and allows 15 AI Mate uses a day. CapCut's help page says exports can be watermark-free, though a template's ending clip can add one.
- **Editing help.** Filmora lists silence detection, text-based editing and AI translation. The CapCut pages we read list pause cutting through Auto Cut but no text-based editing.
- **Hindi captions.** Filmora's iPhone listing names Hindi, while its Dynamic Captions page says "over 20 languages" without naming it. Test your own clip.

## Worked example: subscription or perpetual

Say you edit for 3 years on a desktop.

- Basic: 3 x $49.99 = $149.97.
- Perpetual: $79.99, once.

Perpetual saves $149.97 − $79.99 = $69.98. But Filmora's perpetual licence updates only within Filmora 16, and later major versions cost extra.

## FAQ

### Does Filmora have a free plan?

Yes, forever, but exports carry a watermark. Paid plans remove it and add 4K export.

### Is Filmora available in India?

It has an Indian App Store listing for its phone app, with rupee prices. Its website shows US dollars.

### Which is better for beginners?

Both offer templates and auto captions. In India you can start on Filmora's free plan, which adds a watermark, or read [CapCut alternatives](/alternatives/capcut-alternatives).
