Pick Descript for fast talking-head cuts from a transcript. Pick Premiere Pro (now called Adobe Premiere) for a full professional timeline with effects, colour and team handoff.

## Side by side

| | Descript | Premiere Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Main idea | Edit the transcript to edit the video | Professional timeline editor |
| Runs on | Mac (macOS 14 or newer) and Windows (11 or newer) | Desktop, plus a free phone app |
| India | Dollar prices only | Rupee prices, GST included |
| Free plan | 720p, watermark, 1 media hour a month | None on desktop. 7-day free trial |
| Paid price | Hobbyist $16, Creator $24, Business $50 a month billed yearly | Membership only. The single-app price differs on Adobe's page, so check it |
| Text-based editing | The core feature | Included with the subscription |
| Fillers and pauses | One click, English transcripts only | Filter the transcript, then Delete all |
| Handoff | Creator plan lists timeline export to other editors | Native projects |
| AI tools | Underlord, voice clones, avatars | Generative Extend, Object Mask, Enhance Speech |

Descript's page shows two numbers per plan without labels, and we read the lower as yearly. Adobe's India page lists prices with GST included (checked 3 Nov 2026).

## Three differences that matter

- **Both edit by text.** Premiere Pro has Text-Based Editing too. In Descript it is the whole app. In Premiere Pro it sits inside a full timeline.
- **Captions.** Adobe advises generating captions from your final edited sequence, since Text-Based Editing does not support the captions workflow. See [how to add captions to video ads](/guides/how-to-add-captions-to-video-ads).
- **Handoff.** You can rough-cut in Descript and finish in Premiere Pro. Descript's help page says audio effects such as Studio Sound do not carry into Premiere XML exports.

## What each does well

- **Descript:** Studio Sound for clean speech, voice clones, and share links with comments.
- **Premiere Pro:** Auto Reframe Sequence builds a vertical copy. It also has Media Intelligence search and export to H.265 and ProRes.

## Worked example: a small team

Say 3 editors work on your ads.

- Descript Creator: 3 x $24 = $72 a month billed yearly, or $864 a year. Its page lists 1 to 3 seats billed separately.
- Premiere for teams: 3 x INR 3,352 = INR 10,056 a month, excluding GST.

The two lists include different things, and we do not convert between them.

## Where Marxx fits

[Marxx's AI video editor](/features/ai-video-editor) cuts by transcript in the browser, then exports an editable timeline for Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. Plans start at $9 a month at launch prices (checked 3 Nov 2026). We make Marxx.

## FAQ

### Can Descript replace Premiere Pro?

For talking-head cuts, often yes. For long timelines with effects and colour work, Premiere Pro gives more control. See also [CapCut vs Descript](/compare/capcut-vs-descript).

### Does Premiere Pro remove filler words?

Yes. Adobe's help page says Text-Based Editing can filter a transcript for filler words and pauses, then delete them in bulk. Adobe lists no language limit for it on the pages we read.

### Is Premiere Pro available in India?

Yes. Adobe's India page lists membership prices in rupees with GST included.
