Slack is better when a team shares leads, because everyone sees the same message and can mark who took it. Email is better for one person, for a record that lasts, and for anyone outside your Slack. Many teams use both: Slack for the live alert, email as the backup.

## Side by side

| | Email | Slack |
|---|---|---|
| Where it lands | Each person's inbox | One shared channel |
| Speed to notice | Competes with every other email | Shows in the channel the team watches |
| Who took the lead | Hidden, unless people reply-all | Visible in the channel or thread |
| Contact details | Copied into every inbox | Seen by everyone in the channel, or hidden by your tool |
| Noise | Easy to filter into a folder and forget | Busy channels push older leads up and out of view |
| Works for outsiders | Yes, any address | Only for people in your workspace or a shared channel |
| Cost | Usually included in your lead tool | Slack Free, or Slack Pro from INR 245.25 per user a month paid yearly |

## Difference 1: claiming a lead

This is the biggest gap. Say three salespeople get 45 leads a day by email. Each person sees all 45. Nobody knows who called whom, so two people call the same lead and some leads get no call at all.

In a Slack channel, one person replies "mine" in the thread, or presses a claim button if the tool has one. The other two move on. With 45 leads a day, avoiding even 5 double calls saves your team real time and saves the lead from feeling chased.

## Difference 2: speed

Email sits among newsletters, invoices and client threads. Slack sends a push alert from a channel your team chose to watch. Neither is instant by nature: both depend on how fast the tool that sends them gets the lead. Read [speed to lead](/glossary/speed-to-lead) for why the first minutes matter.

## Difference 3: privacy and noise

Every email copies the lead's phone number into another inbox, often forever. A Slack channel shows it to everyone in that channel. The safer habit in both is to post the form, ad and time, and keep contact details in the tool where the lead lives.

Noise works the other way round. Email filters can hide leads in a folder nobody opens. Slack channels can get busy. Keep one channel for leads only, and name it clearly: see [channel naming conventions](/templates/slack-channel-naming-conventions-for-agencies).

## How to set up each

1. **Email:** turn on the notification in your lead tool or CRM. Google Ads lead form assets offer email notifications, according to Google's help page.
2. **Slack:** use a native integration or an automation tool. Our [list of tools to send Facebook leads to Slack](/best/best-tools-to-send-facebook-leads-to-slack) compares seven.
3. **Test both** with a fake lead from the [Facebook Lead Ads Testing Tool](/guides/how-to-use-the-facebook-lead-ads-testing-tool).

We make Marxx. It posts Meta leads to Slack with contact details hidden by default and a **Mark contacted** button, so the channel shows who took each lead. See [Marxx in Slack](/features/slack).

## FAQ

### Is Slack faster than email for leads?

Usually, because a lead channel has less competing for attention than an inbox. The real speed depends on how fast your tool picks up the lead and sends it.

### Should I send lead alerts to both?

Yes, if you can keep it tidy. Use Slack for the team's live alert and email as a backup record, for example for the owner.

### Can clients see leads in Slack?

Only if they are in the channel. Agencies often share a channel with clients through [Slack Connect](/glossary/slack-connect), so check what that channel shows before you post contact details.
