Pick n8n if you have someone technical who can run a server, because its Community Edition is free to self-host. Pick Zapier if nobody on the team wants to look after software, because Zapier runs everything for you and prices by the task.

## Side by side

| | n8n | Zapier |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs it | You (Community Edition) or n8n (cloud) | Zapier |
| Free option | Community Edition, self-hosted, on GitHub | Free plan, 100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps |
| Cheapest paid plan | Starter EUR 20/month billed yearly | Professional $19.99/month billed yearly, $29.99 monthly |
| Higher plans | Pro EUR 50/month, Business EUR 667/month (self-hosted), billed yearly | 2,000 tasks $49/month yearly, Team from $69/month yearly |
| Trial or meter | Cloud trial with 1,000 executions | Tasks per month |
| Facebook Lead Ads to Slack | Check n8n's integrations list | Ready-made: "New Lead" to "Send Channel Message" |

From n8n.io/pricing and zapier.com/pricing (checked 6 Nov 2026).

An "execution" is one full run of a workflow. A "task" on Zapier is a unit of work in a Zap.

## Difference 1: who keeps it running

Zapier is a hosted service. Zapier runs the servers, so your team only builds and checks the flows. With n8n's Community Edition, you rent a server, install n8n, keep it updated and watch it. If the server stops at midnight, leads stop reaching Slack until someone notices, and every hour of delay hurts your [speed to lead](/glossary/speed-to-lead). n8n's cloud plans remove that work for a fee.

## Difference 2: the cost over a year

Compare the cheapest paid plans billed yearly.

| Plan | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|
| n8n Starter | EUR 20 | EUR 240 |
| Zapier Professional | $19.99 | $239.88 |
| n8n Pro | EUR 50 | EUR 600 |
| Zapier Team | from $69 | from $828 |

The self-hosted Community Edition has no licence fee, but the server and the person's time are yours to pay for. Say a small server costs INR 1,500 a month and your developer spends two hours a month on it. That is INR 18,000 a year plus 24 hours of work.

## Difference 3: how much you can bend it

n8n suits teams with a developer who wants custom flows or to keep data on their own servers. Zapier suits teams that want ready-made pairings and no code. For ad work, that often means: Zapier for "new lead, post to Slack", n8n for custom jobs such as pulling ad data into a sheet each morning.

## Who should pick which

- **Marketing team, no developer:** Zapier. The [Slack lead alerts guide](/guides/how-to-get-facebook-lead-notifications-in-slack) walks through the set-up.
- **Agency with a developer and many flows:** n8n, self-hosted or cloud.
- **Just want Meta leads in each client's Slack channel:** compare native options in our [list of tools](/best/best-tools-to-send-facebook-leads-to-slack).

We make Marxx. It posts Meta leads and ad alerts to each client's Slack channel with no flow to build. See [Marxx in Slack](/features/slack).
