Slack AI works with what is already in your Slack: it summarises channels, searches messages and helps with workflows. An AI ad agent in Slack works with your ad accounts: it reads Meta or Google Ads data and answers questions about spend, leads and ads. If you want numbers from your ad account, you need an ad agent. Slack AI helps you catch up on the conversation around them.

## Side by side

## Three differences that matter

### 1. Where the answer comes from

Ask Slack AI "what did we decide about the Goa campaign?" and it can search and summarise what your team wrote. Ask it "what was our cost per lead last week?" and it has no ad account to read. An ad agent answers the second question from the account itself.

### 2. What you pay for

Slack AI comes with paid Slack plans, which are priced per user. Ad agents are a separate bill, priced by plan, by ad spend or by usage. Say your team has 8 people on Slack Pro at INR 245.25 per user a month paying yearly. That is INR 245.25 x 8 = INR 1,962 a month for Slack, before any ad tool (see [Slack pricing](/prices/slack-pricing)). Ad agent prices vary widely, from Ryze's Paid Ads plan at $89 a month to Runneth's Starter at $999 a month (both checked 6 Nov 2026).

### 3. How it handles data

Slack says: "We do not train large language models (LLMs) on customer data." Ad agents read your ad accounts, so ask each one what it can change and who can ask. For example, Runneth is read-only by default, Polar Operator holds outside changes for human confirmation, and Ryze lets you approve changes in Slack. We make Marxx. @Marxx answers in one client's channel, as the person asking, and never changes ads from Slack.

## Use both together

The two do not compete. One way to split the work:

- **Slack AI:** "Summarise this channel since Friday." Good for an account manager back from leave.
- **Ad agent:** mention the bot with "how did our Meta ads do last week?" Good for the numbers.
- **Then Slack AI again:** search for the thread where the client agreed the new budget.

## FAQ

### Can Slack AI read my Facebook ads?

Slack's AI page describes no ad platform connections. To ask about your ads in Slack, add an ad tool's bot.

### Do I need a paid Slack plan for an ad agent bot?

Not always. Slack's free plan allows up to 10 apps. Check each ad tool's own Slack requirements.

### Is Slackbot the same as an ad tool's bot?

No. Slackbot is Slack's own assistant. Ad tools add their own bots, such as @Runneth, which you mention by name.
