Send a digest to Slack when a team needs to act on it together, such as competitor ads for a client or alerts someone must fix today. Send it by email when one person reads it alone, wants it kept for years, or works with people who are not in your Slack.

## Side by side

| | Slack digest | Email digest |
|---|---|---|
| Who sees it | Everyone in the channel | Each person on the list, separately |
| Where talk happens | In a thread under the digest | Reply-all chains, or nowhere |
| Acting on an item | Buttons in the message, where the tool offers them | Click through to the tool |
| Who did what | Visible to the channel when the tool posts it | Only to the person who acted |
| History | 90 days on Slack's Free plan; paid plans differ | As long as your mailbox keeps it |
| Outsiders | Through Slack Connect or guest accounts | Anyone with an email address |
| Noise | Competes with chat in the channel | Competes with the whole inbox |

Slack plan details checked 6 Nov 2026. Slack Pro is INR 245.25 per user a month paying yearly. See [Slack pricing in India](/prices/slack-pricing).

## Three differences that matter

### 1. Shared reading changes what happens next

A competitor digest in a client's channel is read by the strategist, the designer and the media buyer at once. One saves an ad, another replies "we tried that hook in March", and a test idea forms in the thread. The same digest by email reaches three inboxes and starts three private thoughts. For digests that should lead to a team decision, Slack wins. [How to get competitor ads in Slack](/guides/how-to-get-competitor-ads-in-slack) covers the setup.

### 2. Alerts need a visible owner

When an alert says cost per result jumped, the risk is that everyone assumes someone else is on it. In Slack, the tool can show who snoozed or turned off an alert, so the channel sees it is handled. By email, nobody knows unless someone replies. For alerts with a same-day fix, Slack is the safer place. Setup is in [how to set up Meta ads alerts in Slack](/guides/how-to-set-up-meta-ads-alerts-in-slack).

### 3. Email lasts and travels

A monthly results digest for a founder who never opens Slack belongs in email. So does anything you need to find in two years, if your workspace is on Slack's Free plan with 90 days of history. Email also reaches clients and partners who are not in your workspace, with no setup.

## Which to pick

| Digest | Better in | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Competitor new ads | Slack | Team saves and discusses together |
| Keyword or sector trends | Slack | Feeds the weekly review thread |
| Urgent alerts | Slack | Owner is visible, fix is fast |
| Low-priority alerts | Email | No need to interrupt a channel |
| Monthly results for a founder | Email | Read alone, kept long |

Many teams use both: Slack for the digests the team acts on, email for the ones a single person reads.

In Marxx, each alert can go to Slack, email or both, and competitor and keyword digests post into each client's Slack channel with a **Save** button on every ad. We make Marxx. See [Marxx in Slack](/features/slack).

## FAQ

### Do Slack digests get missed more than email?

They can, in a busy channel. Send digests to a channel with little chat, such as a client's competitor channel, and they get read.

### Can a client see a Slack digest?

Yes, if they are in the channel through Slack Connect or as a guest. Check what the digest shows before you invite them.

### Is email more private than Slack?

Email goes only to the people on the list. A Slack message is seen by everyone in the channel, so choose the channel with that in mind.
