You cannot compare Sora and Veo any more, because OpenAI has shut Sora down. OpenAI ended the Sora web and app experience on 26 April 2026, and its Sora API was scheduled to end on 24 September 2026. If you made ad video in Sora, move to Veo or another tool. This page shows what ended and what to try.

## What happened to Sora

| | Date listed | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Sora web and app ended | 26 April 2026 | [OpenAI help article](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/20001152-what-to-know-about-the-sora-discontinuation) |
| Videos API, sora-2 and sora-2-pro shut down | 24 September 2026 | [OpenAI deprecations page](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/deprecations) |

OpenAI's deprecations page lists no replacement for the Sora models (checked 20 Oct 2026). OpenAI says it will delete data tied to Sora after the shutdown and any final export window, so check the help article if you still need old files.

## What Veo offers

Veo is Google's video model. Google's page describes Veo 3.1 as follows (checked 20 Oct 2026):

- Native audio: sound effects, ambience and dialogue
- Output in 1080p and 4K
- Scene extension, first and last frame, and reference images ("ingredients to video")
- Camera and motion controls
- Access through the Gemini app, Flow, Google AI Studio and the Gemini API

One more change: Google says the Veo 3.1 preview models shut down on 22 October 2026. It recommends Gemini Omni Flash, which Google lists as generally available since 27 August 2026. The Gemini API docs list its inputs as text, image and video, and its output as video. So "Veo" is moving too. Read the details in [Kling vs Veo](/compare/kling-vs-veo).

## Side by side, in practice

| | Sora | Veo and Gemini Omni Flash |
|---|---|---|
| Status | Discontinued | Veo 3.1 preview models shut down 22 October 2026. Gemini Omni Flash is generally available |
| Use for new work | No | Yes, starting with Gemini Omni Flash |
| Old prompts | Reuse as starting points | Reuse as starting points |
| Where to use it | Discontinued, see the dates above | Google's Veo page lists the Gemini app, Flow, Google AI Studio and the Gemini API |

## How to move your ad video work

1. List your best Sora prompts, and the ads they became.
2. Pick the five that produced ads you actually ran.
3. Run each in Gemini Omni Flash and one other model, such as Kling.
4. Score realism, product accuracy and tries per usable clip.
5. Save the winning prompts in a shared sheet.

## A worked example

Say you used Sora for 20 clips a month at about INR 300 each in credits, which was INR 6,000. Your top five prompts made clips that ran in ads with a hook rate above your account average. You test those five in Gemini Omni Flash. Four give a usable clip within three tries. One needs six. You keep four, rewrite one and keep your INR 6,000 budget. Track [hook rate](/glossary/hook-rate) the same way as before so you can compare old and new.

## What to watch for

- **Product accuracy:** check logos, text on packs and hands.
- **Rules:** label AI-made content where a platform asks.
- **Model changes:** names and shutdown dates move fast. Re-check before you build a process on one model.
