A UGC creator makes content for your brand, which you usually run as your own ads. An influencer posts to their own followers, so you also pay for their reach. Hire UGC creators when you need many ads to test. Hire influencers when their audience is the point.

## Side by side

| | UGC creators | Influencers |
|---|---|---|
| You pay for | The videos or photos made for you | Access to their followers, plus the content |
| Does audience size matter? | No | Yes |
| Where it runs | Your page, as ads | Their page. You can also boost it as a partnership ad |
| What you get | Many files to test | A few posts, with a posting date |
| Rights to agree | Where and how long you can run it | Where and how long, plus who else they can post for |
| Label needed | Not on your own ads | Yes, on their post |

The row on rights is a checklist, not a rule. Put every term in writing before you pay.

## The three differences that matter

**1. What you buy.** With a UGC creator, you buy content. With an influencer, you buy content and an audience. A creator with 800 followers can make a strong ad. An influencer with 800 followers has little to sell.

**2. How the content is used.** UGC creators hand you files, and you run them from your own page. For an influencer's post, Meta lets you promote it through partnership ads, if the creator gives you permission ([Instagram Help Centre](https://help.instagram.com/1168446653551639), checked 2026-10-20). See [what partnership ads are](/glossary/partnership-ads).

**3. Disclosure.** In India, ASCI's influencer guidelines say a post needs a clear label when there is a material connection. That includes free products, discounts and perks, not only money. Labels such as Ad, Sponsored, Collaboration or Partnership should be easy to spot, not buried in a bio or among hashtags ([ASCI influencer guidelines](https://www.ascionline.in/social/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/ASCI-Influencer-Guidelines.pdf), checked 2026-10-20). If a creator posts for you on their own page, the label applies. If you run their video from your own page, it is already your ad.

## A worked example

Say you have INR 60,000 for creative this month.

- **UGC route:** 10 videos at INR 6,000 each (10 x INR 6,000 = INR 60,000). Say you cut three different openings from each. That gives you 30 versions to test in Meta.
- **Influencer route:** one Reel at INR 60,000. You get one post to their followers, and one video you may be able to boost.

The prices are made up, and neither route promises sales. The point is the count: the first gives you 30 things to test, and the second gives you one. If your goal is to reach one specific audience that trusts that person, the second may be worth it.

Many brands do both. They test with UGC, then pay an influencer to back the angle that wins. See [UGC vs studio ads](/compare/ugc-vs-studio-ads) for the third option.

## How to choose

- **You are testing hooks and angles:** UGC creators.
- **You want to borrow a trusted voice in a niche:** an influencer.
- **You have one winning ad and want more of it:** go back to the same UGC creator.

## Where Marxx fits

Marxx has a production canvas that publishes to Meta. See [AI UGC vs human UGC](/compare/ai-ugc-vs-human-ugc) for the trade-off. We make Marxx, so weigh that.

## FAQ

### Are UGC creators cheaper than influencers?

Often, because you are not paying for their followers. But quotes vary a lot, so ask several people for a price per video.

### Can I run an influencer's post as an ad?

Yes, through partnership ads. The creator has to give you permission, for their whole account or for one post through an ad code, as Meta's help page explains.

### Do UGC creators need to label their videos?

Not if you run the video as your own ad. If they post it on their own page, label it.
