# What is an ad digest?

> An ad digest is one message that rounds up new ads, alerts or results for a period, instead of one ping per item. Daily vs weekly, and what a good one shows.

An ad digest is a single message that rounds up ad news for a set period, such as competitors' new ads, triggered alerts or last week's results. It replaces dozens of one-off pings with one summary you can read in a couple of minutes, usually by email or in a Slack channel.

## Common kinds of ad digest

- **Competitor new ads digest:** new ads launched by brands you track. See [how to get competitor ads in Slack](/guides/how-to-get-competitor-ads-in-slack).
- **Keyword new ads digest:** new ads that use phrases you track.
- **Alert digest:** the alerts that fired, grouped by severity. See [how to set up Meta ads alerts in Slack](/guides/how-to-set-up-meta-ads-alerts-in-slack).
- **Results digest:** spend, leads or sales for the period against the one before. A full [weekly ad report](/guides/how-to-build-a-weekly-ad-report) goes further.

## Daily or weekly?

| | Daily digest | Weekly digest |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Alerts, leads, sale periods | Competitor ads, trends, reports |
| Risk | Gets skimmed if nothing is urgent | Too slow for a broken ad |
| Reading time | Under a minute | Five to fifteen minutes |
| Typical action | Fix or pause today | Save references, brief a test |

A simple rule: if you would act on it the same day, send it daily. If you would act on it in next week's work, send it weekly.

## Worked example

Say you track three rivals for a fictional travel client, Northwind Escapes. Over seven days they launch 11 ads between them. Eleven separate pings would interrupt the team eleven times. One weekly digest reads: "3 competitors shipped 11 new ads, last 7 days", then lists each brand with a few ads and a link to the rest. One person reads it on Monday and saves three.

## What a good ad digest shows

1. **A headline count**, so you know the size before you read.
2. **The client and the time window.**
3. **Items grouped by brand or severity**, with the most useful first.
4. **A cap per group** and a link to the rest, so one busy brand cannot fill the screen.
5. **An action on each item**, such as Save, Snooze or Open.

Marxx digests in Slack follow this shape: up to three ads per brand, a **View in Marxx** link for the rest, and a **Save** button on each ad. We make Marxx. See [Marxx in Slack](/features/slack).

## FAQ

### Is an ad digest the same as a report?

No. A report explains results and makes recommendations. A digest lists what happened so you can decide what to look at.

### Where should an ad digest go?

Where the team acts on it. For many agencies that is the client's Slack channel. For one-person teams, email can work just as well.
