Advantage+ campaign budget (CBO) is a Meta setting where you give the whole campaign one budget, and Meta moves it between your ad sets as the campaign runs (checked 2026-10-20). Meta used to call it campaign budget optimization.

## How it works

- You set one daily or lifetime budget on the campaign, not on each ad set.
- Meta sends more money to the ad sets with the best chance of results and less to the rest.
- All ad sets need the same budget type, bid strategy and delivery type.
- You can set a minimum or maximum spend on any ad set. Meta says to use limits sparingly, since they cut its room to optimise.
- Meta says it suits campaigns with at least two ad sets.

Meta warns that it may not spend equally. With two active ad sets, most of the money can go to one. So read results for the whole campaign, not ad set by ad set.

A daily budget is an average. Meta says spend can run up to 75% above it on some days, but not past seven times the daily budget in a week.

## A worked example

Say you set INR 9,000 a day on a campaign with three ad sets: broad, lookalike and retargeting. After a few days Meta sends INR 6,000 a day to retargeting. That audience is small, so each extra purchase gets more expensive.

You set a maximum of INR 2,000 on the retargeting ad set. Meta now spreads the other INR 7,000 across broad and lookalike. You judge the campaign by its total cost per purchase.

## When to use it

- You want to scale ad sets that already work.
- You want fewer, bigger ad sets, so each gets enough results to leave the [learning phase](/glossary/learning-phase).

Choose ad set budgets instead when you want a fair test. See [CBO vs ABO](/compare/cbo-vs-abo) for the full comparison.

Advantage+ campaigns for sales also let Meta run the budget for you. See [Advantage+ sales campaigns](/glossary/advantage-plus-shopping-campaigns).

## FAQ

### Are CBO and Advantage+ campaign budget the same thing?

Yes. It is one feature with a new name. In Ads Manager you may also see it called "Campaign budget" or "Budget with Advantage+ on".

### How do I stop one ad set taking all the money?

Set a maximum spend on that ad set. Meta then keeps it under your limit and moves the rest elsewhere.

### Does CBO skip the learning phase?

No. Each ad set still needs its own results. [Advantage+ vs manual campaigns](/compare/advantage-plus-vs-manual-campaigns) shows how structure affects this.
