AI creative scoring gives an ad a number or a grade from an AI model. A score before launch is a guess from the file. A score after launch is a summary of real results. Only a live test shows what your buyers do.

## Two kinds of score

| | Before launch | After launch |
|---|---|---|
| Looks at | The image or video file | Spend, clicks and purchases |
| Gives you | A predicted grade | A rank against your own ads |
| Good for | Cutting weak drafts early | Deciding what to scale or stop |
| Cannot see | Your buyers or your offer | Ads that have not run yet |

## A worked example

Say your target cost per purchase is INR 450. You score four live ads on one plain rule.

**Score = target cost / actual cost per purchase x 100**

| Ad | Spend | Purchases | Cost per purchase | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | INR 13,500 | 30 | INR 450 | 100 |
| B | INR 15,000 | 25 | INR 600 | 75 |
| C | INR 9,000 | 12 | INR 750 | 60 |
| D | INR 6,000 | 20 | INR 300 | 150 |

Ad D scores best, but it has only INR 6,000 of spend. Give it more budget before you trust the 150. A score built on little spend is noise. A good tool shows the spend and sample size next to the grade.

## Questions to ask any scoring tool

1. What does the score predict: clicks, hook rate or purchases?
2. What data was it trained on, and is it your category?
3. Can you see why an ad scored low?
4. Does it say how sure it is?

If a tool cannot answer, treat the score as an opinion. Check it against your own results, as in [creative testing](/glossary/creative-testing).

## What to score with

Pair a score with metrics you can read yourself: [hook rate](/glossary/hook-rate) for the opening and [ad fatigue](/glossary/ad-fatigue) signals for ads that are tiring. For the bigger idea of tagging ads by what is inside them, see [creative intelligence](/glossary/creative-intelligence).

Marxx does not score ads to predict winners. It reads your connected Meta ad account in full and tags creative by hook, angle, format and offer, so you can compare results by tag. See [creative intelligence](/features/creative-intelligence).

## FAQ

### Can AI predict which ad will win?

Treat any prediction as a guess until a live test confirms it. Buyers, offers and timing change the result.

### Is a score the same as a benchmark?

No. A score ranks one ad. A benchmark compares your numbers with a typical range, as in [how to benchmark your ad performance](/guides/how-to-benchmark-your-ad-performance).

### How much spend does a score need?

Enough that the result stops swinging from day to day. A gap built on a handful of purchases can vanish next week.
