# What is AI voice cloning?

AI voice cloning makes a synthetic copy of a real person's voice from samples of their speech. The copy can then say new lines in that voice. In ads, it lets one person record once and "speak" many voiceovers and languages.

Text-to-speech with a stock voice is not cloning. Cloning copies one person.

## A worked example

Say you test 12 hooks, and each needs a new voiceover from your founder. Recording each takes 20 minutes with setup.

**Founder time = lines x minutes per line**

- Re-recording: 12 x 20 = **240 minutes**, or 4 hours.
- With a clone: one 2-minute sample, plus 10 minutes to check the 12 lines. That is **12 minutes**.

The times are made up. The saving is real only if the clone is good, so the check step matters.

## What to check

1. **Pronunciation.** Product names, numbers, prices and Hindi or regional words.
2. **Tone.** Read each line aloud. Does it sound like the person on a bad day or a good day?
3. **Consent.** Keep written permission from the person, saying how and where the voice may be used.
4. **Honesty.** Do not clone a celebrity, a customer or anyone who has not agreed.
