An instant form is the lead form Meta shows inside Facebook or Instagram when someone taps a lead ad. The person sends their details without leaving the app, often with their name and phone number already filled in from their profile.

## The parts of an instant form

1. **Intro.** A headline and a line or two that say what the person gets, such as a callback or a brochure.
2. **Prefilled questions.** Name, phone number, email and similar fields that Meta fills from the person's profile. They can edit them.
3. **Custom questions.** Your own questions, as multiple choice or short answer. "When do you want to travel?" or "Which city?"
4. **Privacy policy.** A link to your own privacy policy.
5. **Thank-you screen.** What happens next, plus a button such as Visit website or Call now.

Our [lead ad form templates](/templates/lead-ad-form-templates) give five forms to copy, with Meta's current limits and banned questions.

## More volume vs Higher intent

When you build the form, Meta asks you to pick a form type.

| Form type | How it works | Pick it when |
|---|---|---|
| More volume | Quick to fill in on a phone | You can call fast and sort leads yourself |
| Higher intent | Adds a review step so people confirm their details | Wrong numbers and accidental taps cost you more than lost volume |

## A worked example

Say an education brand tests both form types for a week with INR 60,000 each. The numbers are made up.

| | More volume | Higher intent |
|---|---|---|
| Spend | INR 60,000 | INR 60,000 |
| Leads | 300 | 180 |
| Cost per lead | INR 200 | INR 333 |
| Leads that qualified on the call | 60 (20%) | 72 (40%) |
| Cost per qualified lead | INR 1,000 | INR 833 |

More volume won on cost per lead. Higher intent won on what matters to sales, the cost of a lead worth talking to. That is why you judge forms by [cost per acquisition](/glossary/cpa) further down the funnel, not by the cheapest lead.

## What happens after the submit

The lead lands in Meta's Leads Center. From there a CRM, automation tool or chat app can pick it up, usually by webhook. Our [Slack lead notifications guide](/guides/how-to-get-facebook-lead-notifications-in-slack) covers getting it to a person fast, and [lead ads vs a landing page](/compare/lead-ads-vs-landing-page) covers when a form beats a website. We make Marxx, which posts new instant form leads to a client's Slack channel. See [Marxx leads](/features/leads).

## FAQ

### Is an instant form the same as a lead ad?

The lead ad is the ad people see. The instant form is the form that opens when they tap it. People often use the names for the same thing.

### Can I edit an instant form after publishing?

No. Duplicate it, change the copy and publish the new version.
