The learning phase is the period after you launch or significantly edit an ad set, while Meta learns who is likely to respond. Results swing more and cost more until it ends.

## How long it lasts

Meta says an ad set usually exits learning after about **50 optimisation events in the week after its last significant edit** (checked 2026-10-20). An optimisation event is the result you chose: purchases for a sales campaign, leads for a leads campaign.

If an ad set is unlikely to reach that, the Delivery column in Ads Manager reads **Learning limited**.

## A worked example

You spend INR 2,000 a day on each of four ad sets. Your cost per purchase is about INR 500.

- Each ad set gets INR 14,000 a week, so about 28 purchases. That is under 50, so all four stay in learning or go learning limited.
- Merge them into one ad set at INR 8,000 a day. It gets INR 56,000 a week, about 112 purchases. It exits learning in days.

## What resets learning

Meta lists these as significant edits (checked 2026-10-20):

- Any change to targeting, ad creative, bid strategy or the optimisation event
- Adding a new ad to the ad set
- Pausing the ad set for seven days or longer
- Large budget changes in one go. Meta says a small change is unlikely to reset learning, but a tenfold jump may.

Make edits in batches, not every day.

## How to exit faster

1. Fewer ad sets with bigger budgets.
2. Broad audiences, so delivery is not starved.
3. A higher-volume event if purchases are rare, such as add to cart, until volume grows.
4. Leave new ad sets alone for a few days before judging them.

## FAQ

### Is learning phase bad?

No. It is how Meta finds your buyers. The cost is a few days of shakier results. Constant edits keep you there for good.

### Does the learning phase apply to campaign budget?

Learning happens per ad set. With Advantage+ campaign budget, Meta moves budget between ad sets. Meta says that move does not send an ad set back into learning (checked 2026-10-20).
