# What is Slack Connect?

Slack Connect is a channel or direct message that two or more companies share, while each company stays in its own Slack workspace. An agency and its client can talk in one channel without either side making a new account.

## How it works

- **One channel, two homes.** The channel shows up in your workspace and in the client's.
- **Each company manages its own people.** The client adds and removes its staff. You add and remove yours.
- **Up to 250 organisations** can share one channel or DM, per Slack's [Connect page](https://slack.com/intl/en-in/connect) (checked 6 Nov 2026).

## Worked example

Say your agency runs Meta ads for Northwind Escapes, which has its own Slack. You create #ext-northwind and invite their marketing lead. She accepts, and the channel appears in Northwind's Slack. Three people from Northwind and two from your agency now share one room. Your internal #client-northwind channel stays private to your team.

Before Slack Connect, the same five people might have used a WhatsApp group, an email thread and a shared doc. Now approvals and updates sit in one searchable channel.

## Slack Connect vs a guest

A guest is a person you invite into your own workspace, with access only to the channels you choose. Slack Connect links two workspaces instead. ## FAQ

### Is Slack Connect free?

Free plans get Slack Connect 1:1 only. Shared channels with other companies come with paid plans. On Pro and Business+, eligible partners on free plans get a 90-day Pro trial.

### Is Slack Connect safe for client work?

Each company controls its own members. Keep internal alerts and lead contact details out of the shared channel, because everyone in it can read them.
