Export Meta video ads as MP4 or MOV with H.264 video and AAC audio at 128 kbps or more (checked 3 Nov 2026). Use 4:5 at 1440 x 1800 for Facebook Feed and 9:16 for Reels, Stories and Instagram Feed.

## Size by placement

| Placement | Ratio | Recommended size | Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| Facebook Feed | 4:5 | 1440 x 1800 | 1 second to 241 minutes |
| Instagram Feed | 9:16 | 1080 x 1920 | 1 second to 60 minutes |
| Instagram Reels | 9:16 | 1440 x 2560 | 0 seconds to 15 minutes |
| Instagram Stories | 9:16 | 1440 x 2560 | 1 second to 60 minutes |
| Facebook Stories | 9:16 | 1440 x 2560 | 1 second to 3 minutes |

Sizes are from Meta's [video ads guide](https://en-gb.facebook.com/business/ads-guide/update/video), where each page gives its own recommendation. Every placement allows files up to 4 GB. Reels takes MP4 and MOV. The other four also take GIF.

## Export checklist

1. Choose the ratio for your placement.
2. Export at the recommended size, or at your footage's size if smaller.
3. Choose MP4 with H.264 video. Use square pixels and progressive scan.
4. Choose stereo AAC audio at 128 kbps or higher.
5. Keep a fixed frame rate. Meta gives no number, so match your footage.
6. Keep text and logos out of the top 14%, bottom 35% and 6% on each side of Reels and Stories.
7. Play the file on a phone, then upload.

## A worked example

Say you want one ad on Facebook Feed and Reels. The 4:5 version at 1080 wide is 1,080 x 5 / 4 = 1,350 tall. The 9:16 version is 1,080 x 16 / 9 = 1,920 tall. That is 570 pixels taller. These are our sums, not Meta's numbers. Cut the 9:16 version first, then make a 4:5 copy.

## Things that differ

- **Facebook Feed text.** The English guide says 50 to 150 characters of primary text. The Hindi version of the page says 50. Check the page for your language.
- **Facebook Reels.** Meta lists Ads on Facebook Reels as a placement. We could not read a separate spec page for it, so check Ads Manager.
- **Story length.** Instagram Stories under 16 seconds play in full, and longer ones may be split into cards.

For the 4:5 and 9:16 choice, read [9:16 vs 4:5 video ads](/compare/9-16-vs-4-5-video-ads). For a spec table by placement, see [Facebook video ad specs](/guides/facebook-video-ad-specs).

## Export from Marxx

[Marxx's AI video editor](/features/ai-video-editor) exports MP4 (H.264) with a Meta ads preset from 9:16, 1:1, 16:9 or 4:3 projects. Its list of project sizes does not include the Facebook Feed ratio, so make that copy in another editor. We make Marxx.
