CapCut is not officially available in India: it is not on the Indian App Store, and its pricing page shows no plans to visitors from India (checked 3 Nov 2026). Where it is offered, open Captions > Auto Captions, pick the spoken language and click Generate.

In India, see [CapCut alternatives in India](/alternatives/capcut-alternatives-in-india) and [the best auto caption generators](/best/best-auto-caption-generators).

## Steps by version

**CapCut Online (web).** CapCut recommends Chrome or Edge.

1. Open the project and select the video clip. The audio must be clear.
2. Choose **Captions > Auto Captions**.
3. Pick the spoken language.
4. Click **Generate**.

**CapCut PC (desktop).**

1. Import the video and place it on the timeline.
2. Choose **Captions > Auto Captions**.
3. Pick the language and confirm the settings.
4. Click **Generate**.

**CapCut Mobile.** Open the project and tap **Captions** in the bottom menu. Choose the language and a template, then start the generation.

## Menu names differ

CapCut's own help pages disagree. One says Captions > Auto Captions. A page dated 30 Jan 2026 says Text > Auto Captions, and calls the button "Generate" online and "Recognize" on desktop. If you cannot find one path, try the other.

## Edit the captions

- **Desktop:** double-click a caption block, or right-click and choose Edit Captions. To change several lines, use **Select** (top left), then **Edit**, and confirm with OK.
- **Online:** select a caption block, then choose "Edit captions" in the right properties panel.
- **Mobile:** tap a caption clip, then "Edit captions".

## Free or paid?

CapCut's pages conflict. The caption tool page says speech-to-text is free. The Standard-vs-Pro page says the auto caption generator is Pro only. Check the plan label in your app. See [CapCut pricing](/prices/capcut-pricing).

## Hindi and other languages

CapCut says captions work in "multiple languages" and can translate to a target language. It gives no list, so Hindi is not confirmed. Test a short clip first.

## Captions that will not generate

Check that the audio is clear and the right clip is selected. On the web version, use Chrome or Edge.

## Browser option

[Marxx's AI video editor](/features/ai-video-editor) runs in the browser and adds auto-captions at word, phrase or sentence level. It has caption styles trending on Reels and Shorts. We make Marxx. For the one-word style, read [Hormozi-style captions](/guides/how-to-make-hormozi-style-captions).
