In Canva's video editor, go to Text > Captions, pick a style pack and select Generate captions (checked 3 Nov 2026). Canva lists 57 spoken languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada and Urdu.

## Steps on desktop

Canva calls these "Editable Captions".

1. Go to **Text**, then under Dynamic text select **Captions**. You can also open Apps and search "Captions".
2. Select the video or audio file, then select **Captions** in the toolbar.
3. Choose a caption style pack.
4. Optional: under "Apply captions to", untick media you want to leave out. Under "Translate captions into", pick a language.
5. Next to "Automatically detect spoken language", click **Edit** to set the language yourself.
6. Select **Generate captions**. Canva adds them to the timeline.

Your design must be a video, a social media design or a supported audio file with speech. Supported audio types are M4A, MP3, OGG, WAV and WEBM. On desktop, the video must finish uploading first. On mobile, the video shows in the Captions panel, and only the audio is processed.

## Languages

Canva's page lists 57 spoken languages. Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Nepali, Tamil and Urdu are on the list. Telugu and Bengali are not. Style packs come in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Indonesian and German.

## Edit and restyle

- **Text and timing:** edit them on the caption layer in the timeline.
- **Style:** select a caption segment, choose Captions in the toolbar, open the **Styles** tab and pick a style pack. There are more than 20.
- **Animation:** select a caption, choose **Animate** on the menu bar, then pick Reveal, Highlight or Snake under Captions.

For a one-word, highlighted look, see [Hormozi-style captions](/guides/how-to-make-hormozi-style-captions).

If the captions are wrong, select the video, open Audio tools in the floating toolbar, choose "Enhance voice", and generate again.

## Download with captions

Share > Download, then choose MP4 Video as the file type. Captions are not embedded in image formats or PDFs. Canva Free downloads MP4 up to 30 minutes at a maximum of 1920 x 1080. Changing the quality on the Free plan shows an upgrade prompt, so keep the default.

Do not confuse these with accessibility captions. Those are view-only and cannot be downloaded or edited.

## Free or paid?

Canva's help page states no plan limit for captions. Its marketing page describes the auto caption generator as free. For plan prices in rupees, see [Canva video editor pricing](/prices/canva-video-editor-pricing).
