To analyze ads with AI, feed it each ad's creative along with its spend and results, then ask it to group the ads by hook, angle and format. Compare cost per result by group, and check every claim against your own numbers.

## Why numbers alone mislead

Ads Manager reports one row per ad. Ten ads that share the same hook look like ten separate stories. AI reads the creative and groups the ads, so you learn which idea worked, not which ad ID won.

## The five steps

1. **Pull a table.** For the last 30 to 90 days, list each ad's name, spend, purchases or leads, cost per result and CTR.
2. **Add the creative.** Next to each row, paste the headline, the main text and what happens in the first three seconds.
3. **Ask AI to tag each ad.** Hook type, angle, format, who appears and the offer.
4. **Roll up by tag.** Total the spend and results for each tag, then work out cost per result. Do the sums in a sheet, or ask the AI to show its arithmetic.
5. **Ask for patterns, then verify them.** Ask which tags are cheap, which have too little data to trust, and what to test next.

## Prompts to copy

- "Tag each ad below with one hook type (question, call-out, result, mistake), one angle (price, convenience, proof, fear of loss) and one format. Return a table."
- "Group by hook type. For each group, show total spend, total purchases and cost per purchase. Show your arithmetic."
- "Which groups have under 10 purchases? Mark them as too thin to trust."

More prompts are in [ChatGPT prompts for Facebook ads](/templates/chatgpt-prompts-for-facebook-ads).

## A worked example

Say you reviewed 30 ads that spent INR 3,00,000 in 60 days. The AI tags them and you total each group.

| Hook type | Ads | Spend | Purchases | Cost per purchase |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Call-out ("If your hair feels like straw...") | 12 | INR 1,20,000 | 300 | INR 400 |
| Offer-led ("Flat 30% off") | 10 | INR 1,00,000 | 200 | INR 500 |
| Founder story | 8 | INR 80,000 | 100 | INR 800 |

Call-outs cost half as much as founder stories. Now check the pattern. You find one founder ad at INR 450 per purchase, so the hook type may not be the problem. The three weakest ads are. Your next test is more call-out variants plus a fresh founder cut.

That is the value of grouping. You change an idea, not just an ad. It also tells you how varied your ads are. See [creative diversity](/glossary/creative-diversity).

## Mistakes to avoid

- **Trusting the maths.** Chat assistants add numbers wrongly now and then. Check totals in a sheet.
- **Reading thin data.** A group with 4 purchases is noise.
- **Mixing a sale week with a normal week.** Compare like with like.
- **Asking what will win.** AI explains what already ran. It cannot know what a new ad will do. Treat its ideas as tests.
- **Pasting private data without checking.** Look at your assistant's data settings first.

## Connect it to live data

Pasting tables works, but it goes stale. If you want the assistant to read your account directly, see [how to connect Meta ads to ChatGPT](/guides/how-to-connect-meta-ads-to-chatgpt). Once you have patterns, turn them into new angles with [how to come up with ad angles](/guides/how-to-come-up-with-ad-angles).

We make Marxx. It reads your Meta ad account and tags every creative by hook, angle, format and offer, so the tagging in step 3 is done for you. See the [AI ad analyzer](/ai-ad-analyzer).

## FAQ

### Can AI tell me which ad will win?

No. It can explain which hooks, angles and formats worked in your past ads. A new ad still needs a test.

### How much data do I need?

Enough that each group has at least 10 results. With fewer, the pattern may be luck.

### Do I need a paid AI plan?

Not for pasted tables. A paid plan helps if you want to connect live account data, and plan limits change, so check your provider's page.
