To audit a Meta ad account, check seven things in order: health, tracking, structure, learning status, spend, creative and reporting. Start with tracking, because every other number depends on it.

## 1. Account health

Open **Business Support Home** and look at your account overview. It shows disabled accounts, advertising restrictions, outstanding issues and your feedback score. Pick the last 14, 30 or 90 days. Rejected ads sit here too. If you have some, see [how to appeal a rejected ad](/guides/how-to-appeal-a-rejected-facebook-ad).

## 2. Tracking

Open **Events Manager**. Do your purchase or lead events fire, and only once per order? Compare Meta's purchase count with your store's count for the same week. A big gap means tracking is missing or doubling events. The **Diagnostics** tab lists problems with your Pixel or Conversions API. Read [Meta Pixel vs Conversions API](/compare/pixel-vs-conversions-api) if one of them is missing.

## 3. Structure

Count your campaigns, ad sets and ads. Many small ad sets split your results into thin slices. Meta's own guidance is to avoid high ad volumes and to combine similar ad sets (checked 2026-10-20, [source](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/112167992830700)).

## 4. Learning status

In Ads Manager, look at the **Delivery** column. "Learning limited" means Meta expects fewer than about 50 results in the week after your last significant edit. Add the **Last significant edit** and **Optimisation events** columns to see why. Fixes are in [how to exit learning limited](/guides/how-to-exit-learning-limited). The basics are in [the learning phase](/glossary/learning-phase).

## 5. Spend

Sort ads by spend. What share goes to your top five? How much goes to ads whose cost per result is above your limit? Money on those is your fastest saving.

## 6. Creative

How many different angles are live, not just how many ads? Look for frequency rising and CTR falling. Follow [how to fix ad fatigue](/guides/how-to-fix-ad-fatigue) for the ones that are tiring.

## 7. Reporting

Check your attribution setting. Check that ad names follow one pattern. Check that someone reads a weekly report. Set one up with [how to build a weekly ad report](/guides/how-to-build-a-weekly-ad-report).

## A worked example

Say you spend INR 92,000 a week across 14 ad sets, and your cost per purchase is INR 500.

- Each ad set gets about INR 6,570 a week. That buys about 13 purchases, far below 50.
- So most of the 14 are probably learning limited.
- Merge them into 3 ad sets. Each now gets about INR 30,670 a week, or about 61 purchases.

You fix structure first, then creative. Change only a few things at a time, since big edits reset learning.

## Mistakes to avoid

- **Auditing only platform numbers.** Check them against your store.
- **Fixing everything on one day.** Each big edit can restart learning.
- **Skipping tracking.** A good structure on bad data still fails.

We make Marxx. It runs an account audit across your Meta ad account and splits creative fatigue into ads tiring now and ads that will tire within 7 days.

## FAQ

### How often should I audit my ad account?

Do a full audit every quarter, and a quick check of tracking and learning status each month.

### What should I fix first?

Fix tracking first, then structure, then creative. Later fixes cannot rescue bad data.

### Do I need a tool for this?

No. Ads Manager, Events Manager and Business Support Home cover all seven steps. Tools save time on larger accounts.
