To clone your voice for ads, record one to two minutes of clean speech, upload it to a voice cloning tool, and type your scripts so the clone reads them. Clone only your own voice, or one you hold written consent for, and listen to every line before it goes into an ad.

## Steps

We use ElevenLabs as the example because its documentation is public. Check your own tool's rules.

1. **Record.** Use a quiet room and one speaker. ElevenLabs asks for at least 1 minute and recommends 1 to 2 minutes with no reverb or background noise. The clone copies speed, inflection and accent, so read in the tone you want in your ads ([ElevenLabs docs](https://elevenlabs.io/docs/creative-platform/voices/voice-cloning/instant-voice-cloning), checked 2026-10-20).
2. **Create the clone.** In the dashboard, open **Voices** and click the plus icon. Choose **Instant Voice Clone**, upload or record the audio, name the voice, confirm you have the right and consent to clone it, and click **Save voice**.
3. **Generate your lines.** Paste a script and listen to the result.
4. **Check the details.** Listen for product names, prices in rupees, numbers and Hindi or regional words. Fix any wrong ones and generate again.
5. **Add it to the video** with on-screen text. See [how to add captions to video ads](/guides/how-to-add-captions-to-video-ads).
6. **Label if needed, and keep consent on file.** The next sections cover both.

Sources: ElevenLabs [voice cloning docs](https://elevenlabs.io/docs/creative-platform/voices/voice-cloning) and [pricing page](https://elevenlabs.io/pricing), checked 2026-10-20. The pricing page lists no voice cloning on Free. Plans change, so check before you buy. ElevenLabs also says that for a professional clone you can only clone your own voice, even if someone else consents.

## Consent and labels

India's ASCI guidelines on AI-made ad content bar the use of a person's likeness without consent. They also require a label when a real person's face or voice is copied for personalised messages, even with consent ([ASCI](https://www.ascionline.in/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Guidelines-for-Responsible-Labelling-of-Synthetically-Generated-Content-in-Advertising.pdf), checked 2026-10-20). They come into effect three months after publication. See [how to label AI-generated ads on Meta](/guides/how-to-label-ai-generated-ads-on-meta). This is not legal advice.

## A worked example

Say you test 6 scripts with 3 hook variants each, which is 18 voiceovers. Recording each yourself takes 8 minutes with retakes.

- By hand: 18 x 8 = **144 minutes**.
- With a clone: 2 minutes to record once, plus 2 minutes to generate and check each line. 2 + (18 x 2) = **38 minutes**.

You save 144 − 38 = 106 minutes. The times are made up. The saving holds only if every line passes your listen-through. For the idea itself, see [what AI voice cloning is](/glossary/ai-voice-cloning).

## Mistakes to avoid

- Cloning a customer, a celebrity or any person who has not agreed in writing
- Recording in a noisy room, which gives a rough clone
- Skipping the listen-through
- Forgetting that a label may be needed

We make Marxx. It has a production canvas that publishes to Meta. See [the production canvas](/features/production-canvas).
