To connect Google Ads to ChatGPT, add an MCP server that reads Google Ads: open Plugins, select the plus button, choose Add custom MCP server, paste its HTTPS address and sign in. OpenAI lists custom MCP servers for Business and Enterprise/Edu plans, and Pro with read-only access (checked 2026-10-20).

## Check your plan first

[OpenAI's page](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/12584461-developer-mode-and-mcp-apps-in-chatgpt) says custom MCP server connections and full MCP support are available to ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu customers on the web. Pro users can connect custom MCP servers with read and fetch permissions. On Business, only admins and owners can create and publish them. The page does not list Plus or Free plans.

## Pick a server

| Option | What it is | Effort |
|---|---|---|
| Google's own server | An open source, read-only server you run yourself, locally or on Google Cloud Run | A developer task |
| A hosted server | A vendor runs it. You paste an address and sign in | A few minutes |

Google's guide says its server is read-only in the current release, so it reads data and changes nothing. It also says developer tokens were sunset on 9 September 2026 and are no longer needed in the latest version. Setup needs a Google Cloud project and OAuth or service account credentials ([Google's guide](https://developers.google.com/google-ads/api/docs/developer-toolkit/mcp-server), checked 2026-10-20).

ChatGPT connects to a public HTTPS address, or through OpenAI's Secure MCP Tunnel. A server that only listens on your own laptop is not reachable without one of those.

## Steps in ChatGPT

From OpenAI's page. Menu names change, so look for where you add a custom MCP server.

1. Go to **Plugins**.
2. Select the plus button, then **Add custom MCP server**.
3. Enter a name, and a description if you like.
4. Under **Connection**, enter the server's public HTTPS MCP address.
5. Set up sign-in, usually OAuth, and approve access to your Google Ads account.
6. Read the risk warning and tick **I understand and want to continue**.
7. Select **Create as a plugin** and look over the tools it found.

Then start a chat, type @ and pick the plugin.

## Prompts to try

- "Compare cost per conversion for the last 7 days with the 7 days before, by campaign."
- "List search terms that spent over INR 2,000 with no conversions this month."
- "Which ads have the lowest CTR in my biggest campaign?"

## A worked example

Say you ask: "Which search terms spent over INR 2,000 last week with no conversions?" ChatGPT calls the server and answers with four terms that cost INR 9,300 together. You add them as negative keywords in Google Ads yourself. The connection is read-only, so it cannot do that for you.

## Safety checks

- **Prefer read-only.** OpenAI says ChatGPT asks you to confirm actions based on the app's permissions. Still, start with a server that cannot change anything.
- **Treat the server like any app with access to your data.** Check who runs it and what it can do.
- **Agencies: connect one client at a time.**
- **Revoke access from the server's side** when you stop using it, not only in ChatGPT.

We make Marxx. It has a hosted MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT that reads your Meta and Google Ads accounts. Use the address https://api.marxx.ai/mcp. See the [MCP page](/mcp).

## FAQ

### Do I need a developer to connect Google Ads to ChatGPT?

Not with a hosted server, where you paste an address and sign in. Running Google's own server means setting up a Google Cloud project, which is a developer task.

### Can ChatGPT change my Google Ads campaigns?

Only if the server you connect allows changes. Google's own server is read-only, which makes it a safe place to start.

### Is my ad data safe in ChatGPT?

That depends on your ChatGPT plan's data settings and on the server you connect. Check both before you connect live account data.
