# How to connect Meta ads to ChatGPT

To connect Meta ads to ChatGPT, add an MCP server that reads your Meta ad account: open Plugins, select the plus button, choose Add custom MCP server, paste its address and sign in. Meta runs its own server, but it can edit and delete ads, so limit it to read-only first.

A [Meta developer post](https://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/2026/07/16/meta-ads-mcp-server/) from 16 July 2026 says any developer with their own Meta app can connect. The steps are:

1. In the developer dashboard, select your app and click **Use cases**, then **Add use cases**.
2. Choose **Ads and monetization**, select **Create & manage ads with ads MCP server** and click **Save**.
3. If you manage data for other businesses, such as an agency, submit the app for review and request Advanced Access on the `ads_mcp_management` permission.
4. Pick how to sign in: OAuth, or a token you manage yourself.

If you are not a developer, a hosted server is the easier way in.

## Set limits first

Meta says rules define what an AI agent can and cannot do on an ad account. For example, you can give read access to performance data and withhold changes to budgets, campaigns or creative. Start there. Widen access later if you trust the results.

## Steps in ChatGPT

OpenAI lists custom MCP servers for Business and Enterprise/Edu plans, and Pro with read-only access (checked 2026-10-20, [source](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/12584461-developer-mode-and-mcp-apps-in-chatgpt)). Menu names change, so look for where you add a custom MCP server.

1. Open **Plugins** and select the plus button.
2. Choose **Add custom MCP server** and give it a name.
3. Under **Connection**, enter the server's public HTTPS address.
4. Set up sign-in and approve access to your ad account.
5. Tick the box to accept the risk warning.
6. Select **Create as a plugin**, then type @ in a chat and pick it.

## Prompts to try

- "Show spend, CTR and cost per purchase by campaign for the last 7 days against the 7 days before."
- "Break down last week's spend and cost per purchase by platform."
- "Which age and gender groups cost least per purchase?"

## A worked example

Say you ask for last week's spend and cost per purchase by platform. ChatGPT answers:

Reels cost 25% more per purchase, since INR 600 / INR 480 is 1.25. Before you move money, check the sample. Reels made 60 purchases against 100 for feed. Test with a small shift first.

## Safety checks

- **Know what the server can change.** Meta's server can create, edit and delete campaigns, ad sets and ads. Use its rules to block that.
- **Read every confirmation.** Do not approve a change you do not understand.
- **Agencies: one client per session,** so one account's data never mixes with another's.
- **Revoke access in Meta's settings** when you stop using the server.
