To give an agency access to your Meta ad account, add them as a partner. In Meta Business Suite, open Settings, click Partners, choose "Give a partner access to your assets", enter the agency's business portfolio ID and pick the ad account and access level. You need full control of your own business portfolio.

Steps follow Meta's pages on [giving a partner access](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/1717412048538897), [adding people](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/2169003770027706) and [finding a portfolio ID](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/1181250022022158), checked 2026-10-20.

## Before you start

- **You hold full control** of your business portfolio. If you cannot see **Partners** in the menu, you may not.
- **Two-factor authentication** is on for your portfolio. Meta asks for it.
- **The agency has its own business portfolio** and sends you its portfolio ID. They find it in Settings, then Business portfolio info.
- **The ad account sits in your portfolio.** Keep ownership with you.

## Steps: share as a partner

1. Go to **Settings** in Meta Business Suite for your business portfolio.
2. Under **Users**, click **Partners**.
3. Click **Add**, then **Give a partner access to your assets**.
4. Enter the agency's business portfolio ID and click **Next**.
5. Choose the assets to share, such as the ad account, the Facebook Page and the Instagram account. Choose the level of access for each.
6. Click **Assign assets**.
7. Someone else with full control of your portfolio may need to approve it.

Both of you can then see the shared assets in each portfolio's Settings.

## Full control or partial access

| Level | What the partner can do |
|---|---|
| Full control | Manage everything on that asset. They cannot share it with another business |
| Partial access | Only the tasks you tick, such as creating content, managing ads or answering messages |

Only the owner can share an asset with another business. With partial access, the agency can give its own people only the tasks you gave it.

## When to add people instead

For a freelancer or one team member without a portfolio, go to Settings, click **People**, then **Invite people**. Use the email that matches their Facebook account. They must accept the invite. Give only the access they need. Meta sets basic access by default.

## A worked example

Say you run a INR 4,00,000 a month account and hire an agency. They send you portfolio ID 123456789 (a made-up number). You share the ad account and Page with partial access and tick only the tasks they need: manage ads and create content. If Meta asks for it, a second admin approves. The agency's staff can then work on the account under their own logins. Three months later you end the contract, open **Partners**, click **Options**, choose **Remove from business portfolio** and click **Remove partner**.

## Mistakes to avoid

- **Letting the agency create the ad account** in its own portfolio. You then hold no ownership.
- **Giving full control** when partial would do.
- **Skipping two-factor authentication.**
- **Forgetting to remove access** when the contract ends. Meta's steps are in [Remove partners from your business portfolio](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/2222659621282858).
- **Never reviewing who has access.** Add a check to your [account audit](/guides/how-to-audit-a-meta-ad-account) and use the [audit checklist](/templates/account-audit-checklist-meta-ads).
