# How to keep AI answers to one client

> Stop an AI bot mixing up clients' ad data in Slack: one channel per client, no shared or multi-client channels, and answers limited to what the asker can see.

Give every client its own Slack channel, link each channel to one client in your AI tool, and never ask in a channel that two clients or two companies share. Then the bot knows whose account you mean, and it cannot pull another client's numbers into the answer.

## Why answers get mixed up

An AI bot in Slack has to work out which ad account a question is about. If the channel holds more than one client, "how did Meta do last week?" has no single answer. A careless setup can show Client A's spend in a thread Client B's team reads. In an agency, that is the mistake clients remember.

## Set up one channel per client

1. **Create one internal channel per client.** For example `#client-northwind` and `#client-wanderlast`. See [Slack channel naming conventions for agencies](/templates/slack-channel-naming-conventions-for-agencies).
2. **Give each client its own workspace in your ad tool,** with its own Meta, Google and Slack connections. Marxx calls these [client workspaces](/features/client-workspaces).
3. **Set that channel as the client's default channel.** In Marxx: **Settings -> Integrations -> Slack -> Manage -> Default channel**, with the client selected.
4. **Add the bot only to client channels.** Leave it out of `#general` and team chat.
5. **Keep client-facing channels separate.** Use [Slack Connect](/glossary/slack-connect) channels to talk to the client, and your internal channel to ask the bot.

The wider agency setup is in [how to set up Slack for an ad agency](/guides/how-to-set-up-slack-for-an-ad-agency).

## What Marxx does in each kind of channel

We make Marxx. It is built to refuse the risky cases rather than guess.

| Where you ask | What happens |
|---|---|
| A channel that belongs to one client | Answers in the thread with that client's data |
| A channel two clients share | Does not answer |
| A channel shared with another company | Does not answer |
| A direct message | Does not answer |

Marxx also answers as the person asking. Say Priya Shah can open Northwind Escapes in Marxx but not Wanderlast Holidays. Even in the right channel, her answers only use what she can see in Marxx. Every button press in Slack is also done as her, and only for clients she can open.

## How other tools handle it

- **Runneth.** Motion's help suggests one Motion organisation per client, and keeping Runneth on internal channels rather than client channels. Runneth is not available to Slack guests.
- **Markifact.** Its site says it runs "separate agents for every client".
- **Polar Operator.** Answers in mentions and in DMs. If your team uses DMs, agree which client each DM is about.

Whichever tool you pick, test it. Ask about Client A from Client B's channel, and check that the answer refuses or stays on Client B.

## Common mistakes

- **One `#ads-team` channel for every client.** Fine for chat, wrong for the bot.
- **Adding a client contact to the internal channel.** Now they see answers about their account plus your notes.
- **Giving a junior access to every client "for now".** The bot answers with whatever the asker can see.

## FAQ

### Can I ask Marxx about two clients in one message?

No. Ask in each client's own channel. Marxx does not answer in channels two clients share.

### What if a teammate leaves the agency?

Remove their access to the client in your ad tool. With Marxx, their Slack questions then stop using that client's data, because answers follow what the asker can open.

### Does the bot remember Client A when I move to Client B?

Each Marxx thread sits in one client's channel. Marxx keeps the question and answer for 7 days after the thread's last message, then deletes them.
