The first time you press any Marxx button in Slack, Marxx shows you a private message with **Link your Slack account**. Press it, check your details in Marxx, press **Confirm**, and from then on every Marxx button you press in Slack acts as you.

## Why you link once

Buttons such as **Mark contacted** and **Add note** change things in Marxx. Marxx needs to know which Marxx person pressed them, so it can:

- put your name on the result, as in "✓ Contacted by Priya Shah" or "Note added by Priya Shah"
- act only for clients you can open in Marxx
- refuse people who are not in your company

Linking connects your Slack identity to your Marxx login, once. Each person on the team links their own account.

## Step by step

1. In a client's Slack channel, press any Marxx button, such as **Mark contacted**.
2. Only you see a message with **Link your Slack account**. Press it.
3. Marxx opens in your browser. Sign in if it asks.
4. Check the four details on the screen (see the table below).
5. If everything is yours, press **Confirm**.
6. You land on **Integrations** in Marxx, with the message "Slack account linked".
7. Go back to Slack and press the button again. It now acts as you.

## What to check before you press Confirm

| Detail on screen | What it should be |
|---|---|
| Slack name | Your own name in Slack |
| Slack ID | Your Slack member ID |
| Slack workspace | Your company's Slack, not a client's or a community's |
| Marxx email | The email you sign in to Marxx with |

Only continue if you pressed a Marxx button in Slack yourself a moment ago. If a link arrives that you did not ask for, close it. Say a colleague pastes a "link your account" link in a channel and asks you to confirm it. Do not. The details on that screen would be theirs, not yours.

## People outside your company

In a channel shared with another company through [Slack Connect](/glossary/slack-connect), people from that company cannot use Marxx buttons. They still see the lead messages, so keep **Include name and contact details** off in shared channels. Everything you do from Slack is done as you, and only for clients you can open in Marxx, so a linked account never reaches a client you have no access to. More on how each client stays separate in [client workspaces](/features/client-workspaces).

## How to unlink or disconnect

| You want to | Go to | Press |
|---|---|---|
| Stop Slack buttons acting as you | **Settings -> Integrations -> Slack -> Manage -> Your Slack account** | **Unlink** |
| Remove Slack from Marxx for everyone | **Settings -> Integrations -> Slack -> Manage** | **Disconnect** |

Unlink when you leave a team, change Slack workspaces or linked the wrong Marxx login. You can link again later by pressing any Marxx button. Disconnect is bigger: it removes Slack from Marxx, and any @Marxx questions and answers Marxx kept are deleted too.

We make Marxx. The full list of buttons and messages is on [Marxx in Slack](/features/slack), and the lead buttons are covered in [Facebook lead notifications in Slack](/guides/how-to-get-facebook-lead-notifications-in-slack).

## FAQ

### Do I need to link my account to read lead messages?

No. Anyone in the channel sees the messages. You link only when you press a Marxx button.

### Does every teammate need to link?

Yes, each person who presses buttons links their own Slack account once, so actions carry the right name.

### Can I link a different Slack account later?

Yes. Unlink under **Your Slack account** in the Slack settings, then press any Marxx button from the new Slack account and confirm again.
