To make ads in regional Indian languages, pick two or three languages from your order data, have a native speaker write the ad (not a word-for-word translation), and test each language in its own ad set. Then compare cost per result by language and move budget to the winner.

## How many languages are there?

India's Constitution lists 22 languages in its Eighth Schedule ([PIB](https://www.pib.gov.in/PressReleaseIframePage.aspx?PRID=2085529&reg=3&lang=2), checked 2026-10-20). You do not need all of them. Start where your customers are.

## Steps

1. **Read your data.** Split last quarter's orders by state or pin code. Pick the two or three languages that cover most of them.
2. **Write natively.** Ask a native speaker to write the script, not translate your English one. Use everyday words and local phrases. Keep brand names in Roman letters if customers do.
3. **Match the whole path.** The voice-over, on-screen text, captions and landing page should use the same language. A Tamil ad that lands on an English page can lose people.
4. **Add voice.** Use a native speaker, or AI dubbing. See [how to dub ads into Hindi](/guides/how-to-dub-ads-into-hindi) for the method.
5. **Test one language per ad set.** Give each the same offer, creative and budget so the language is the only difference.
6. **Read results by language,** then move budget.

## What Meta's tools do

Checked 2026-10-20 on Meta's pages for [advertising in multiple languages](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/1852644738394400), [dynamic language optimisation](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/594069204359830) and [generative AI translations](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/1498029841494157).

- If you pick no language, Meta shows your ad to people its systems predict can understand the language of your creative.
- Under **Languages**, you can add up to 48 more languages to one ad, with a headline and primary text for each. You can break down reporting by language. Meta says this step is gradually moving into a new step called Translations.
- It is not available for partnership ads, Instant Experience, messaging-app destinations, or Advantage+ sales campaigns that use Advantage+ creative.
- Meta's AI text translation lists English to Hindi and Bengali among its supported pairs. You cannot edit the translated text. Its AI voice translation lists English to Hindi. Meta's overlay translation list names no Indian language.
- Meta says these features are not available in every region or language, so check the preview in Ads Manager.

Meta's lists do not name Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada or Malayalam. For those, write the text yourself.

## A worked example

Say a skincare brand finds that Maharashtra gives 24% of orders, Tamil Nadu 18% and the rest of India 58%. It builds three ad sets with the same offer and INR 1,000 a day each for five days.

| Language | Spend | Purchases | Cost per purchase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hindi | INR 5,000 | 10 | INR 500 |
| Marathi | INR 5,000 | 14 | INR 357 |
| Tamil | INR 5,000 | 8 | INR 625 |

Marathi wins. The brand moves budget there, writes a second Marathi script, and tries Tamil again with a new native voice before it drops it.

## Mistakes to avoid

- Running machine translation with no native check
- Mixing two scripts in one video
- Using formal book language where people speak casually
- Sending the click to an English-only page

We make Marxx. It has a production canvas that publishes to Meta. See the [production canvas](/features/production-canvas).

## FAQ

### Should I use Hindi or English for pan-India ads?

Test both, plus a local language for your top state. Let cost per result decide.

### Can Meta translate my ad automatically?

For some pairs, yes. Meta lists Hindi and Bengali for text translation. Always preview, because you cannot edit AI-translated text.

### Do I need a separate landing page for each language?

Ideally yes, or at least a page that switches language. A language mismatch after the click can lose buyers.
