You can pay for Facebook ads in India with a credit card or co-branded debit card, which Meta charges after you spend, or with UPI or Netbanking, which you load in advance. Choose when you first set up the ad account, because Meta says you can add a UPI or Netbanking method only then.

Details follow Meta's pages on [India payment options](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/1410784518969094), [when Meta charges you](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/105373712886516), [available funds](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/173319523214585) and [paying early](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/1814143615511573), checked 2026-10-20.

## The two ways to pay

| | Card (automatic billing) | UPI or Netbanking (available funds) |
|---|---|---|
| When you pay | After you spend | Before you spend |
| How Meta charges | When costs reach your payment threshold, and on your monthly bill date for what is left | Deducts from your balance about once a day |
| If it goes wrong | A declined payment pauses ads | The balance reaches zero and ads stop |
| Extra | Backup cards, Pay now for early payment | Add funds any time, auto reload |
| What you need | A card that supports recurring payments | Account country India, currency INR, method chosen at setup |

Meta's India page lists Visa and Mastercard credit cards and co-branded debit cards. It also lists American Express, but Meta's accepted payment options page and its e-mandate card list name only Visa and Mastercard for India. Check which cards Ads Manager shows you.

## Card rules in India

Because of the Reserve Bank of India's e-mandate rules, only cards that support recurring payments work for automatic billing. Meta verifies a card with a INR 3 charge that you confirm with a bank OTP, then refunds it. After that it charges you each time you reach your billing threshold, up to INR 5,000 or INR 15,000 per transaction, and your bank sends a notice at least 24 hours before each debit ([Meta](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/3536169639844756)).

## Pay early or add funds

- **Card:** Billing & payments, then Payment settings, then **Pay now** next to Amount due. Admins only. Use it any time before the threshold or bill date. The button shows only when you owe something.
- **UPI or Netbanking:** Billing & payments, then Payment methods, then **Add funds**. Set **auto reload** to top up when the balance falls below a level you choose.

## Tax and paperwork

Meta adds GST and TDS to charges for ad accounts with India as the business country. It says the amount charged includes TDS, but you must still pay TDS to the government under local law. A GSTIN is optional. If you are registered and want input tax credit, add it in Payment settings, under Business info ([Meta](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/1273346946097087), checked 2026-10-20). See [how to get a GST invoice from Meta](/guides/how-to-get-a-gst-invoice-from-meta) and [GST on Meta ads](/glossary/gst-on-facebook-ads).

If you boost a post in the Instagram iOS app, Instagram Help says you pay through the Apple App Store, and Apple keeps a service fee. Boosting from instagram.com, Meta Business Suite or Ads Manager avoids it ([Instagram Help](https://help.instagram.com/898715828241123), checked 2026-10-20).

## A worked example

Say you spend INR 4,000 a day.

- **Card, threshold INR 15,000.** By the end of day 4 your costs are INR 16,000. Meta charges INR 15,000 and carries INR 1,000 forward. On your monthly bill date it charges whatever is left.
- **UPI.** You add INR 28,000 on Monday for seven days. Meta deducts about INR 4,000 a day. On Sunday the balance is near zero. If auto reload is available to you and switched on, it tops up. Without it, ads stop.

## How to choose

1. **Steady, larger spend and a card that supports e-mandate:** card.
2. **Small spend, or you want a hard cap on what Meta can take:** UPI or Netbanking.
3. **Either way:** add a backup method and set up GST details early.

## FAQ

### Can I pay for Facebook ads with UPI?

Yes, if your ad account country is India, the currency is INR and you chose UPI when you first set up the account. It works as prepaid funds.

### Does Meta charge me before or after my ads run?

For cards, after. Meta charges when your costs reach your payment threshold and on your monthly bill date. For UPI and Netbanking, you pay first.

### Why was I charged several times in one month?

Meta charges each time your costs reach the payment threshold, then again on your bill date for the rest. It also says you can be charged after your ads stop.
