# How to remove background noise from a video

Run an AI voice clean-up on the clip: in Premiere Pro, select the audio clip and choose Enhance in the Essential Sound panel, and in Descript, switch on Studio Sound.

1. Select an audio clip with dialogue on the timeline.
2. Open the Essential Sound panel and select **Enhance**.
3. A progress bar shows the estimate. You can keep editing meanwhile.
4. Fine-tune with the **Mix Amount** slider, which blends enhanced and original audio.

Limits: it works on mono and stereo only, not multichannel, and not on nested sequences. A stereo clip comes out as a mono downmix.

1. On a script layer, select it and open the Properties panel in the right sidebar.
2. Under Audio Effects, switch on **Studio Sound**.
3. Move the **Intensity** slider to set how much clean-up is applied.

In a multitrack sequence, open it in the Sequence Editor, select the track and switch on Studio Sound in the Properties panel. It needs an internet connection and applies to the whole file, so every use of that file in the project changes. It uses AI credits on current plans.

## A worked example

Say the Enhance result sounds thin at full strength. Set Mix Amount to 70%. You hear 70% enhanced audio blended with 30% of the original, which keeps some of the original sound. Move it in steps of 10% until the voice sounds clear and natural.

## Record cleaner audio first

Clean-up cannot rebuild words that noise has buried. A better recording needs less of it.

- Put the microphone close to the speaker's mouth.
- Switch off fans, air conditioners and open windows.
- Record a few seconds of the quiet room before the speaker starts.
- Re-record a line if a horn or a mixer drowns the words.

### Can clean-up fix a very noisy recording?

Not always. It works best when the speech is still audible. If the noise hides the words, re-record the line.

### Does Premiere Pro's Enhance work on stereo?

### Does Studio Sound work offline?
