Use a tool that transcribes your clip, flags words like "um" and "uh", and cuts them: in Descript choose Remove filler words in the AI Tools panel, and in Premiere Pro use the Filler words filter in the Transcript panel.

## Steps in Descript

1. Descript underlines fillers such as "um" and "uh" in light blue in the script.
2. Open the AI Tools panel in the right sidebar and choose **Remove filler words**.
3. A sidebar lists every filler with a timestamp and an audio preview.
4. For each one, choose what to do (the four options are below).
5. Optional: turn on **Avoid harsh cuts**. Descript then skips any filler it cannot remove without clipping nearby speech.

The four options:

- **Delete** removes the text and the audio.
- **Delete and replace with gap** removes the audio and keeps a gap clip, so timing holds.
- **Ignore** strikes the word through and removes the audio.
- **Remove from transcript** changes the script only. The audio stays.

Descript detects filler words in English transcripts only, and it uses AI credits on current plans. By default it works on the whole composition. To clean one part, copy that section into a new composition, run it there, then paste it back.

## Steps in Premiere Pro

1. Make a transcript first. Choose Window > Text, then use the Transcript tab, or pick Automatic Transcription when you import media.
2. Open the Text-Based Editing workspace.
3. Select the filter icon in the Transcript panel.
4. Choose **Filler words**.
5. Select **Delete** for one word, or **Delete all**.

Adobe says Text-Based Editing is included with your subscription. Its docs do not state which languages filler detection covers.

## Other tools

Paths and prices checked 3 Nov 2026.

| Tool | Where | Note |
|---|---|---|
| CapCut | Captions > Auto captions, turn on Identify filler words, then Generate. Or use the Remove filler words window above the timeline | Desktop only. CapCut's own pages disagree on whether it is free or Pro |
| VN | Auto Captions > Cloud-based mode > Identify filler words | A VN Pro function. Cloud mode uses credits |
| Camtasia | Audiate: automatic filler word removal | Included from the Essentials plan, INR 7,399 a year |
| Pictory | The Filler words toggle in the transcript | Removals apply to the video |
| Kapwing | Auto Video Editor | Removes silences, filler words and stutters from your prompt |

CapCut is not officially available in India: it is not on the Indian App Store, and its pricing page shows no plans to visitors from India (checked 3 Nov 2026). Premiere Pro is now called Adobe Premiere.

## A worked example

Say a 45-second clip has 9 filler words and each takes 0.4 seconds. That is 3.6 seconds (9 x 0.4). After you remove them, the clip runs 41.4 seconds. Play the cut. Fillers often sit right before a key word, so check that the next word still starts cleanly.

## Hindi and Hinglish speakers

Descript flags fillers in English transcripts only. It will not flag Hindi fillers such as "matlab" in a Hindi transcript. In a tool that cuts from a transcript, delete those words in the text instead.

[Marxx's AI video editor](/features/ai-video-editor) finds filler words from the transcript and cuts them, and you can ask it to remove a specific word or line. We make Marxx. Plans start at $9 a month at launch prices (checked 3 Nov 2026).

## FAQ

### Is removing filler words free?

It depends on the tool. Premiere Pro includes Text-Based Editing with the subscription. Descript lists Remove Filler Words on its Hobbyist plan and above, and its Free plan has a trial of its AI tools (checked 3 Nov 2026).

### Will removing fillers leave jump cuts?

Yes, sometimes. Descript's Avoid harsh cuts option skips fillers it cannot remove cleanly. Cover the rest with b-roll or a zoom.

### Can I remove one specific word?

Yes. In Descript, delete the word in the script and the audio goes with it. In Marxx's editor you can ask for a specific word or line to go.
