In DaVinci Resolve Studio, select your clips with the Range tool, right-click the selection and choose Remove Silence. This feature, called AI IntelliCut, is Studio only, so the free edition does not have it.

## What it costs

DaVinci Resolve is free. Studio's list price is US$295, on sale for US$236 until 20 Nov 2026. In India it is INR 25,980, list INR 31,980, excluding GST (checked 3 Nov 2026). See [DaVinci Resolve pricing](/prices/davinci-resolve-pricing) for what else Studio adds.

## Steps

Blackmagic lists IntelliCut under Fairlight, Resolve's audio page, in its Resolve 20 guide. Its Resolve 21.1 feature table (September 2026) still marks it Studio only. Menu names in Resolve 21 may differ a little.

1. Open your timeline. Blackmagic's guide lists IntelliCut in the Fairlight section, so start there.
2. Use the Range tool to select a clip or clips on a track.
3. Right-click the selection and choose **Remove Silence**.
4. In the Remove Silence dialog, set Threshold, Pre Head, Post Tail, Minimum to Strip, and Fade Head and Tail. Red stripes show the silences it will remove.
5. Confirm, then play the result.

## The settings

| Setting | What to do with it |
|---|---|
| Threshold | Decide how quiet counts as silence |
| Minimum to Strip | Raise it and only the longer silences go |
| Pre Head and Post Tail | Guard the edges of each cut so speech is not clipped |
| Fade Head and Tail | Soften each cut |

Start with the red stripes. If they mark breaths you want to keep, change the settings until only dead air is marked.

## A worked example

Say a podcast clip is 3 minutes (180 seconds) and the red stripes mark 40 silences that average 1.2 seconds. That is 48 seconds (40 x 1.2). After Remove Silence the clip runs 132 seconds. Raise Minimum to Strip and fewer silences go, so the clip stays longer.

## On the free edition

The free edition has no Remove Silence. You can cut by hand: play the track, split at each pause and delete the gap. Or use a transcript-based tool, such as [Premiere Pro's Pauses filter](/guides/how-to-remove-silence-in-premiere-pro). Premiere Pro is now called Adobe Premiere.

[Marxx's AI video editor](/features/ai-video-editor) cuts silences in the browser and exports an editable timeline for DaVinci Resolve. We make Marxx. Plans start at $9 a month at launch prices (checked 3 Nov 2026).
