Run the standup as one written post per media buyer in #int-standup each morning, by a fixed time such as 10:30am. Each post covers yesterday, today, spend flags per client and anything blocking, and the team lead replies in the thread instead of calling a meeting.

## Why a written standup

- **Buyers check accounts before they talk.** A written post forces them to open each account first.
- **Nobody waits.** People post when ready, inside a window.
- **It leaves a record.** Next week you can scroll back and see when a problem first showed up.
- **Clients never see it.** It lives in an int- channel, separate from every client.

## The format

Pin this in #int-standup. Each buyer copies it and fills it in.

```
STANDUP: [Name], [date]
YESTERDAY
- [Client]: [what you changed]
TODAY
- [Client]: [what you will change or test]
SPEND FLAGS (spend vs daily budget)
- [Client]: [spent] vs [budget], [over/under by %]
BLOCKED
- [What you need], from [who], by [when]
```

Keep each line short. Leave out clients with nothing to report.

## Step by step

1. **Create #int-standup** and add every buyer and the team lead.
2. **Pin the format** and the posting window, for example 9:45 to 10:30am, Monday to Saturday.
3. **Set a daily reminder** in the channel at 9:45am.
4. **Each buyer opens their accounts and alert channels first**, then posts.
5. **The lead replies in each post's thread** with answers or decisions, by 11am.
6. **Unblock in the thread.** If a blocker needs a client, the account lead takes it to that client's channel.

## Worked example

Say Priya Shah runs three clients. Yesterday, Northwind Escapes spent INR 42,000 against a INR 35,000 daily budget. The overspend is INR 42,000 - INR 35,000 = INR 7,000, which is INR 7,000 / INR 35,000 = 20% over.

```
STANDUP: Priya Shah, 6 Nov
YESTERDAY
- Northwind: launched 2 Goa reels
- Mango Lane: paused the static that tired out
TODAY
- Northwind: cap the new ad set at INR 30,000
SPEND FLAGS
- Northwind: INR 42,000 vs INR 35,000, 20% over
BLOCKED
- Diwali offer copy, from Mango Lane, by Friday
```

The lead replies in the thread: "Cap it, and check whether the reel or the old ad set took the extra spend."

## Common mistakes

- **Posting from memory.** Numbers must come from the account that morning.
- **Discussion in the channel, not the thread.** The next post gets buried.
- **Listing every client every day.** Flags only. Silence means no change.
- **Copying alerts into the post.** Read alerts in each client's -alerts channel and report what you decided. See [how to set up Meta ads alerts in Slack](/guides/how-to-set-up-meta-ads-alerts-in-slack).

We make Marxx. [Marxx in Slack](/features/slack) posts each client's triggered alerts to its own channel, so a buyer can scan those channels before writing the standup.

For the channel setup around this, see [how to set up Slack for an ad agency](/guides/how-to-set-up-slack-for-an-ad-agency) and the [naming conventions](/templates/slack-channel-naming-conventions-for-agencies). The weekly view lives in the [weekly ad report template](/templates/weekly-ad-report-template).

## FAQ

### How long should a standup post take?

About 10 minutes once the buyer has checked the accounts. If it takes longer, the format has grown too big.

### Should account managers post too?

Only if they own decisions. Most agencies keep the standup to buyers and the team lead.

### What if nobody replies to a blocker?

Name the person who must answer in the post. If it stays open past noon, the lead raises it on a call.
