A weekly competitor review takes 15 minutes in the client's Slack channel: read the week's competitor digest, save three ads worth learning from, and write one test idea in the thread. Do it at the same time every week, with one named owner per client.

## Why weekly and why in Slack

Daily checks turn into noise, and monthly audits arrive too late to act on a rival's sale. Once a week is enough to spot new hooks and offers while they are still live. Slack keeps the review where the team already talks, so the test idea lands next to the ads that sparked it. Getting the digest there in the first place is covered in [how to get competitor ads in Slack](/guides/how-to-get-competitor-ads-in-slack).

## The 15-minute routine

1. **Minutes 0 to 5: read.** Open the week's competitor digest in the client channel. Read every new ad once, without saving anything.
2. **Minutes 5 to 10: save three.** Save the three ads that teach something: a new hook, a new offer or a format the client has never run. Three is the limit, so you have to choose.
3. **Minutes 10 to 15: write one test idea.** Reply in the digest's thread with one idea in a fixed shape (below). One idea gets made. Five ideas get discussed.

### The thread reply

```
Week of 3 Nov: Northwind Escapes
Saved: Wanderlast "monsoon Goa" reel, Bluepine carousel, Saltmarsh static
Pattern: 2 of 3 lead with price per night, not package price
Test idea: our Goa reel with "from INR 2,400 a night" in the first 2 seconds
Owner: Priya  |  Brief by: Thursday
```

All the brands here are made up. The shape is what matters: what you saved, the pattern, one idea, one owner, one date.

## Who does what

| Role | Job in the review | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Owner (strategist or account lead) | Runs the 15 minutes and posts the reply | 15 min |
| Designer or editor | Reacts to the idea, flags effort | 2 min |
| Media buyer | Says where the test fits in the budget | 2 min |
| Client (if in the channel) | Reads, comments if they want | Optional |

Rotate the owner each month if one person covers many clients. The review still happens when someone is on leave.

## Common mistakes

- **Saving ads you would never make.** A big-budget film shoot is not a test idea for a client with INR 50,000 a month.
- **Calling a rival ad a winner.** You can see in a public ad library that an ad has kept running. You cannot see whether it worked. Say "has run 40 days", not "is working".
- **No follow-up.** Check last week's idea first. Was it briefed? If not, it is this week's idea.
- **Skipping quiet weeks.** No new ads is also news. Post "No new ads this week" so the client knows someone looked.

To go deeper on one rival, use [how to compare your ads with competitors](/guides/how-to-compare-your-ads-with-competitors). To shape the idea into a proper test, the [ad testing hypothesis template](/templates/ad-testing-hypothesis-template) helps.

Marxx posts a competitor new ads digest in each client's channel, with a **Save** button on every ad that files it to the client's default board. We make Marxx. See [competitor tracking](/features/competitor-tracking).

## FAQ

### What day should the review happen?

Pick a day early in the week, such as Monday or Tuesday. That leaves time to brief and make a test before the weekend.

### What if the digest has 30 new ads?

Read the brand names and first frames, open the three brands that matter most, and still save only three. Then cut your tracked list.

### Should the client see the review?

If they are in the channel, yes. A short weekly thread shows them the team is watching the market for them.
