To save a competitor ad from Slack, press **Save** under the ad in a Marxx digest. The ad goes to that client's default board, and only you see "Saved to ..." with a link to the board.

## Where the Save button appears

Every ad shown in these Marxx digests has a **Save** button:

- **Competitor new ads digest:** new ads from the competitors you track for the client.
- **Keyword new ads digest:** new ads for the keywords you track.

Each digest shows up to three ads per brand. To save an ad that is not shown, press **View in Marxx** and save it there. Setting the digests up is covered in [how to get competitor ads in Slack](/guides/how-to-get-competitor-ads-in-slack).

## What happens when you press Save

1. **First time only:** only you see a message with **Link your Slack account**. It opens Marxx. Check your Slack name and ID, the Slack workspace and your Marxx email, then press **Confirm**. You land on Integrations with "Slack account linked".
2. **Press Save again.** From now on, buttons act as you.
3. **Marxx saves the ad** to the default board of the client whose channel you are in.
4. **You see the confirmation.** A message that only you can see says "Saved to ..." and links to the board.

| What you did | What you see | What others see |
|---|---|---|
| Pressed Save on a new ad | "Saved to ..." with a board link | The digest, unchanged |
| Pressed Save on an ad already on the board | A note that it is already there | The digest, unchanged |
| Pressed a button before linking | **Link your Slack account** | Nothing |
| Pressed Save as someone from another company | The button does not work for you | Nothing |

Two things follow from this. The channel stays clean, because saves do not post replies. And nobody knows you saved an ad unless you say so, so post a line in the thread if you want the team to look.

## Why the default board

Each client in Marxx has its own default board. Saving from that client's channel puts the ad with that client's other references, not in one big pile. That keeps an agency's clients apart: a skincare client's saves never land on a travel client's board. Read more on [client workspaces](/features/client-workspaces). We make Marxx.

Saving acts as you, and only for clients you can open in Marxx. If you cannot open a client in Marxx, you cannot save to its board from Slack either.

## Saving from other places

Slack is one way in. The Marxx browser extension adds a **Save** button on the Meta, TikTok and LinkedIn ad libraries, Pinterest and Google Images, for ads you find while browsing. If you are new to keeping references, start with [what a swipe file is](/glossary/swipe-file) and [how to build one](/guides/how-to-build-a-swipe-file).

## FAQ

### Can I choose a different board from Slack?

No. The Slack button always saves to the client's default board. The "Saved to ..." link takes you to that board in Marxx.

### Why did nobody see that I saved an ad?

The confirmation is shown only to the person who pressed **Save**. Reply in the thread if you want others to look.

### What if two people save the same ad?

The second person to press **Save** sees a message that the ad is already on the board.
