# How to send ad alerts to different Slack channels

> Send ad alerts to their own Slack channel, apart from leads and digests. Set a default channel per client, override it per message, and decide who watches.

In Marxx, each client has a default Slack channel, and you can send any message type, such as alerts, to a different channel instead. The usual setup is one alerts channel per client, watched by the media buyer, with leads going to a channel the sales team watches.

## How routing works

We make Marxx. Its Slack settings have two layers, set separately for every client.

- **Default channel.** Every Marxx message for that client goes here unless you say otherwise.
- **Per-message channel.** Under **What goes to Slack**, each message type can go to a different channel.

The message types are New leads, Alerts, Ad account connection problems, Competitor new ads digest, Keyword new ads digest, Weekly sector trends and Moodboard digest.

## Set it up

1. Go to **Settings -> Integrations -> Slack** and press **Manage**.
2. Make sure you are working in the right client.
3. Set the **Default channel**, for example #wanderlast.
4. Under **What goes to Slack**, find **Alerts** and pick a different channel, for example #wanderlast-alerts.
5. Do the same for **Ad account connection problems** if the media buyer should see those too.
6. In Slack, add **@Marxx** to each new channel. If you miss one, the Slack settings tell you which.
7. Move to the next client and repeat. One client's choices never change another's.

## Three common layouts

| Layout | Default channel gets | Alerts channel gets | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| One channel | Everything | Not used | A brand with one person running ads |
| Alerts apart | Leads, digests, trends | Alerts, connection problems | Most agencies |
| Three-way | Digests, trends | Alerts, connection problems | Teams with a separate sales desk, with leads in a third channel |

Say Wanderlast Holidays gets 40 leads a day. In one channel, a High CPA alert lands between lead 23 and lead 24 and nobody sees it. With alerts apart, the media buyer sees the alert in a quiet channel within minutes.

## Decide who watches

A channel only works if a named person reads it.

- **Alerts channel:** the media buyer for that client, with the account manager as backup.
- **Connection problems:** the same media buyer, since a broken connection stops every alert.
- **Leads channel:** the sales team or the client's own staff.

Write the names down, and name channels the same way for every client with a [channel naming convention](/templates/slack-channel-naming-conventions-for-agencies). Our [agency Slack setup guide](/guides/how-to-set-up-slack-for-an-ad-agency) covers the full structure.

## Client-shared channels

If you share a channel with the client through [Slack Connect](/glossary/slack-connect), alerts still post there. People from the client's company cannot use Marxx buttons, such as Snooze, so your own team handles them. You can keep alerts in an internal channel and share only leads and digests. See [client workspaces](/features/client-workspaces) for how each client's setup stays separate.

## FAQ

### Can one alert go to two channels?

The Slack settings choose one channel per message type for each client. Pick the channel where the person who acts on alerts works.

### What happens if @Marxx is not in the channel?

Marxx cannot post there. The Slack settings show which channel to add it to.

### Can different clients share one alerts channel?

Keep one alerts channel per client. Mixed alerts are hard to read, and Ask Marxx does not answer in a channel two clients share.
