To track ad trends in your sector, look once a week at what many advertisers in your category launched, name the pattern they share, and decide whether to test your own version. A trend is a pattern across several brands, such as a format or hook type. One rival's new ad is not a trend.

## Where to see sector trends

| Source | What it shows | Effort |
|---|---|---|
| Meta Ad Library | Active ads from any brand, searchable by term | Manual, one search at a time |
| TikTok Creative Center | Top ads and trends on TikTok | Manual, browse and filter |
| Google Ads Transparency Center | A verified advertiser's Google ads | Manual, one advertiser at a time |
| A weekly trends message in Slack | What is trending in your sector this week | Arrives on its own |

For the manual sources, see [how to use TikTok Creative Center](/guides/how-to-use-tiktok-creative-center) and [how to use Google Ads Transparency Center](/guides/how-to-use-google-ads-transparency-center).

Marxx can post **Weekly sector trends** in a client's Slack channel: what is trending in that client's sector this week. Switch it on under **What goes to Slack** in the Slack settings. Clients that had Slack connected before this update keep it off until you switch it on. We make Marxx. Setup is on the [Marxx in Slack page](/features/slack).

## Act on a trend without copying

Copying a trend means taking another brand's ad and changing the logo. Acting on it means taking the idea underneath and making it yours.

| Trend you notice | Copying (skip) | Your own version (do) |
|---|---|---|
| Travel brands open reels with a price on screen | Use a rival's exact frame and line | Open with your own price, shot on your own trip |
| Skincare ads show a 7-day diary | Re-cut their diary footage | Film a real customer's diary in your voice |
| Food brands use split-screen "us vs them" | Name the same rival | Compare against "takeaway", not a brand |

Steps that keep you on the right side:

1. **Name the pattern in one line.** "Price in the first two seconds" is a pattern. "Wanderlast's Goa reel" is an ad.
2. **Ask if it fits your brand.** A premium brand may not want price first, even if every rival does it.
3. **Write your version from your product.** Use your own footage, words and offer.
4. **Test it small.** One or two new ads against your current best, for a week.
5. **Retire it when it fades.** A trend that every rival runs turns into wallpaper.

## Worked example

Say you run Meta ads for Northwind Escapes, a fictional travel brand, with a budget of INR 1,50,000 a month. The weekly trends message shows several travel advertisers opening reels with a nightly price. You write: "Pattern: price per night in frame one." Northwind is mid-priced, so it fits. You brief one reel opening on "Goa, INR 2,400 a night" and run it against your current best reel with INR 2,000 a day each for 7 days, INR 28,000 in total. You compare cost per lead at the end of the week and keep whichever is lower.

Log each trend test in a [creative testing tracker](/templates/creative-testing-tracker-template) so you can see which patterns suit the brand.

## FAQ

### How is a sector trend different from a competitor's new ad?

A competitor's new ad is one brand's choice. A trend is a pattern you see across several brands in the same week or month.

### Does a trend mean the ads are working?

Not on its own. A public ad library shows which ads are live and since when, not their results. A trend tells you what many advertisers are trying.

### How often should I check trends?

Weekly is enough for most sectors. Check more often in the weeks before a big sale such as Diwali or Ramadan.
