Keep Reels text and logos out of the top 14%, bottom 35% and 6% on each side (Meta's figures, checked 3 Nov 2026). On a 1080 x 1920 frame, that is about 269 px, 672 px and 65 px.

## Margins in pixels

Meta gives percentages only. The pixels below are our arithmetic on the two sizes Meta recommends.

| Frame size | Top (14%) | Bottom (35%) | Each side (6%) | Text area |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1080 x 1920 | 269 px | 672 px | 65 px | 950 x 979 px |
| 1440 x 2560 | 358 px | 896 px | 86 px | 1,268 x 1,306 px |

Meta's Reels page words it as "at least" 14%, 35% and 6%. The Instagram Stories and Facebook Stories pages use the same figures. The reason Meta gives is that the profile icon and call to action cover the edges. See [Reels ad specs](/guides/instagram-reels-ad-specs).

## Set guides in your editor

1. Open a 1080 x 1920 project.
2. Draw a guide 269 px from the top.
3. Draw a guide 1,248 px from the top. That is 672 px from the bottom.
4. Draw guides 65 px in from each side.
5. Keep captions, prices and logos between the guides.
6. Let background footage run to the edges.
7. Play the export on a phone with the app's buttons showing.

Meta's Reels ads page also offers a Reels Safe Zone Checker as PowerPoint, Photoshop and Keynote files.

## A worked example

Say you place a price line, "INR 999 only", 1,500 px from the top of a 1080 x 1920 frame.

- The bottom margin starts at 1,920 - 672 = 1,248 px from the top.
- 1,500 is below 1,248, so the caption and buttons cover your price.
- Move the line to 1,000 px. It now sits inside the text area.

## What Instagram does not say

Instagram publishes no separate safe-zone figure for normal Reels that we could find. The numbers above are Meta's guidance for Reels ads. Use them as a careful guide for normal Reels too.

[Marxx's AI video editor](/features/ai-video-editor) has safe-zone overlays for Reels, Stories, Shorts and TikTok. We make Marxx. Other platforms set their zones differently. See the [TikTok safe zone](/guides/tiktok-safe-zone) and the [YouTube Shorts safe zone](/guides/youtube-shorts-safe-zone). For caption placement, read [how to add captions to video ads](/guides/how-to-add-captions-to-video-ads).
